Title: The young mermaid
Name: David Sourwine
Country: Canada
Software: Painter, Photoshop

Its was bloody cold when I did this up, I needed a warm thought or two. So I dreamt of summer past times and this idea was born. I wanted enchanting youth that may or may not be real in a mystical natural world. I called her a mermaid, if she is one I'm not sure. I left the dead give away tail out of the shot. She has no gills or scales on her skin. No bubbles come from her mouth though. I wanted it left to the viewer to choose. Like a tale from a drunk fisherman who swares he saw a mermaid, it up to you to decied if you believe the story or not.

Will post close-ups once thread is created

What is there to say other than WOW.

Beautiful colors! I especially love the way you painted the water and the light coming in and the lighting on the mermaid and her skin tone, really is very beautiful.

This is a very pleasing picture and I enjoy looking at the colors and composition. But the only thing that bothers me is his hand for some reason seems like he is pressing against an invisible glass and the bottom right side of the picture where his chest is doesn't seemed finished. But im almost scared to critique because this is an awsome piece. keep up the good work!

Great impression of being underwater. There is only one thing that bothers me a little and that would be her breasts (I assume it is a female or at least that's what her face tells me) which are a bit too small. OK I know she is young but just one size bigger... :P
Anyway it's a wondeful pic so I instantly saved it on my HDD. :)

I went back and looked at it for some time, the hand needs some work. The bottom of the screen I wanted to leave vague because I wanted to avoid the "nude" issue. I was hoping that it would be more of a blured shape to give the impression of her being nude without going into detail, but it was brought up again in a later post so I'll need to address it some way.

Good eye! Your right and I'll fix it ASAP

Its all about emotion in the viewer, thxs for the comment.

Hmmm tough call here. What your saying is true from one point of view but I didn't want to make it a visual disrupting piece to some people. She's young, not meant to be sexy. Like the post for more detail down in that area, I'm considering it but not sure at the moment. Thxs for the critic though its always good to hear peoples views on the pic.

Gprgeous 5 stars!

It's very nice to think we had the same sensation that leaded to the same type of image.
The composition is different, but the same concept and feel over it.
This is why I fell in love with this piece, it's really what I need to see.
Let's get rid of that cold cold winter! :D

beautiful colors and skintone! just wondering though, did you leave the ear unifinished? i didn't notice it at first; it seems to be a little rough. anyway it doesn't distract from the whole image
