View Full Version : Like to know more about "digital Matte Painting" in AE

Does anyone know that "digital matte painting" is it consider as only working in still or can work with footage, can also consider as "digital matte painting" or just being call as "compositing"?

Understood that talking abt "digital matte painting" is alwalys working with still in photoshop.

Depends on who you ask, but generally speaking digital mattes are any background element created digitally. You can create a digital matte by importing a still of a desert into After Effects, adding in some moving clouds, etc. and there you go - a digital matte to be used behind your live-action elements. Most mattes are created in Photoshop simply because of the toolset which lends itself to creating realistic paintings, something that would be impossible to do entirely in AE.
