View Full Version : Landscaping - Forest-like bushels?
TogaMario 12-28-2002, 05:48 AM I was wondering if anyone had an effective (maybe quick and accurate?) way to have clusters of forest painted onto my valley landscape. I have no clue where to start on this one. So far, i've decided how my elevation and composition should be, and have a displaced box set up for my 'land' and the camera angle is right, but now I want to add the small details, like the chaotic (but semi-controlled) forests, lighting (not small but will take a long time to get right) and texturing. I'm new to landscapes, and hope someone has a wealth of knowledge ... i've seen the work that comes from this forum, conjure people ;) Thanks.
Sincerely,
TogaMario
P.S. We're far enough away to now be able to see too much detail in most of it, and I REALLY don't want it to look like the same clumps of mesh everywhere.

Forest Pro, and Forest Lite.
Pro has all the features, lite only some, but if you DL the lite version, you will want to upgade to the retail.
It's really the best plugin for scattering trees, rocks, etc. over a landscape. I mean, VERY good plugin.

DL the lite version, as it may have enough for you to get your job done.
Just my opinion.
There are also some freeware scripts for Max 4 and 5 such as Freehand Tools.

Look for freehand tools.
Digimation offers Spraymaster:

You can also look into using the scatter compound object type in Max, though somewhat more limited than the above plugs and scripts.
Hope this helps a bit. Too tired to write more.

I'm using the plug-in, and may be able to do a similar effect, looking just as good ... without registering ;) The knowledge of how the program does it's thing is enough for me. Thanks muchly!
