Hi guys. I need some help here. As you all can see I am trying to get a good bevel on the logo. I did this in Max 4. First of all I converted the font to spline object and then I use boolean (unite) in spline subobject-mode to get the desired effect. Fine. However, this generated a lot of vertices, so I manually delete the unneccesary vertices while trying to maintain the shape. OK.
So far so good. It's ready for bevelling. I then drew a profile curve and use the Bevel Profile from Edit Mesh. The three pics are as follow.
1. This first pic is rendered with the bevel profile curve interpolation set to 0 steps. Looks ok.
2. In this one, the bevel profile curve is set to 6 steps with optimize checked. Notice the unwanted folds at the letter U.
3. This one I jacked up the steps to 20. Everything is finally smoothed. No unwanted artifacts.
But is this a good model ? I mean with steps set to 20, the curved surface face is very full of splines. Besides taking up processing power, what are the weakness and is there any other way around this ? I hope I made my problem sound clear. Thanks.
Cheers !!!
PS I am going to texture it to look glassy or crystal. Any comments ?
