And so... he evolves after playing with him for longer than 5 minutes... (*dramatic music*)

I gots the Mole rat reference picture in the scene so I can look at it when I need some details. Just eyeballing the features. Don't have enough reference material for a true mole-rat model.

SO...........It's alive!! ALIVE!!!!

Whoa! Heck of a difference between those two posts, man-- it's seriously starting to look like a Naked ( :scream: ) Mole Rat (*dramatic music*). I'll see if I can't dig up some more reference for ya!

PLUS I found this handy little tidbit of info...

"Mole rats also have an exceptional set of front teeth. They have four incisors that are located entirely outside of their mouth so they can close their mouth tightly when they are using their teeth for digging. The moles also have the ability to move each front tooth independently. For example, they can spread them apart or move them together. An indication of just how important these teeth are to the animal is the fact that fully 30 percent of its cortex is devoted to processing information from the region where the teeth are located"

That freaky, or what?!

Hey thanks for the extra reference pics. Small as they are, they should help me a bit more on completing the body. Lol. Talk about taking something to the complete end.

Next thing you know... Ninja Naked Molerat Wrestling!

Panzer - I'm using 3Ds Max 4.2. Poly-edit tools only so far. Couldn't get mesh tools to work in it. Would love some edge loop lovin'. Could select them much easier. Anyways, doing fine so far is the concensus from everyone including myself.

My plan for the next update :

The moveable front teeth that are apparent even when the mouth is fully closed.
a simple rough cage of the body
then detail the body with the appropriate wrinkles
then see about putting them damn whiskers in there
Find a cold soda and suck it down, cuz this is gonna drive me mad. lol

Oh... and anyone who watches the Disney Channel... there is a naked mole rat on the show Kim Possible . So sayth the girlfriend.

Holy cow-- Ninja (*absolute silence*) Naked ( :scream: ) Mole Rat (*dramatic music*) Wrestling?! Not sure which is more terrifying, seeing the wrinkles in that situation, or having to model the wrinkles...

Ooh! I forgot-- meshtools won't work, you need cspoly tools instead! Where the heck was that thing....? Think it's on the same website meshtools came from, you could nab that and get all the edgeloop luv you want.

Well, it's an update! Sorta, Just roughed out the body and trying to tweak the sucker's paws. They have some really funky anatomy going on here. Just wish I had one of my very own to look at.

Not to mention.... *gasp* Naked Mole Rat Webcam! *horrifed screams*

YEP!.. well.. if I had the chance.. maybe I would.. lol

Wonderful start. He kinda looks like a beaver right now.. Only thing i can crit is that the part where his front claws bulge out should have some sort of well.. a bulge. :wip: and the back legs need some work.. but i think you know that :P

Aigh!! *shields eyes from the... barrel-shaped butt shot*

Hmmm... coming along darn nicely... only thing is... the teeth don't quite say EVIL to me yet like they should. *makes Monty Python-esque Sharp Point Teeth gestures* You know... EVIL! http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/buckteeth.gif

OOO I love mole rats. I tried modeling one once, but I sucked then harder than now so it didn't come out well. I found a cool book in the kids section of the library with lots of pictures and intersting facts.
What's up with your guys teeth? They are teeth and should be in his mouth, although in your avitar it looks otherwise. I think your refrence is too small.

Yes yes.... I know the back legs need work. lol. Just trying to make the front look like the reference pictures. Which I may goto B&N tomorrow and look for books on molerats.

Gnarly - NI! NI!!!! awww... Look at the fuzzy bunny. It's nuzzling my hand, it's that just sooo cu... AHH! It bit off my hand!!! Ahh!! Run away! Run away!!

EZ Schwartz : From the reference pictures, it looks like the teeth are outside the mouth. So that's how I modelled them to look. Which is also apparent in the reference pictures from what Gnarly posted earlier in the thread. Which are small pictures, so off to the book store I shall run. ;-)

So patience everyone. I'll get my naked mole rat finished this year. *evil cackle* Yes.... eeexxcellent... :applause:

Dood, check out some of the stuff I posted earlier-- Mole Rat fangs are outside their mouths so they can dig with em without swallowing tons o dirt. Freakish little critters.

On the other hand, though-- a library book is not a bad idea, NF! Bet you could find lots more pictures there.

I was looking through my refrence pictures I've downloaded and found a few real big ones of mole rats! They're all of a queen but they may help. I don't remember where I found them, but they're all like 1800 pixels wide. I had to shrink them to fit on here, but if you want the big ones I could e-mail them to you.

From this picture it looks like the teeth are in the mouth, it just has a weird shaped mouth :)

Ohhhhh GEEZ! Where did you find those, E.Z.? They're magnificently HIDEOUS! You rock! (but I still say it does look like the mouth is closed behind the teeth)

Well, NF... looks like you've got yer work cut out for ya! (ewww) http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/sick.gif

*collective horrified scream*

Uh oh!! More anatomy I've never seen before! *squeels like a little girl*

Thanks for the pics EZ

But look, the first picture you posted, the mouth is closed, but the teeth are outside. There isn't any indication of the mouth is open to reveal the teeth. So :p heh.

But I will have to edit how the snout of the rat is formed around the teeth as they come out near the base of the nose. I could see there was some extension of skin there on the teeth, gum-like in fact. I just need to check out the mouth a bit more in more pictures. Going to the store tomorrow now that I have free time to do Mole-rat fun. ;-)

Texturing... lol.. You gave me a good reference pic there of the side. Just gotta learn to patch it all around the body to look like that instead of modelling every single miniscule fold of skin. Gnarly got worried when I told him it was gonna be easy. I just don't worry myself over anything. Just get thru the project and finish the sucker out is what I hope to do. A fully modelled and textured molerat by this month or Feb. lol. Then there's the gruesome task of rigging the sucker. WEEE!!!

Well, peoples! It's back to the modelling I go! And the last pic EZ.. I was like: "What the?!? Looks like a bunch of penises and scrotums... Oh wait.. just a huge gathering of mole rats... EWWWW!!!" heh.. I'll puke later. ;-)
