Can I still buy a 6800GT (agp) and soft mod to Quadro 4000?

I have read that you can't with new versions? Is this true?

I am running a png quadro 700 - will it make that much difference on max?

I am planning on using this...

Is this even the best option?

many thanks in advance...

All you have to do is install the NVstrap driver in RivaTuner and then enable professional capabilities. There is no Quadro identity crisis necessary.

RivaTuner is your ONLY solution.

many thanks...

Any one know which is the right card to get?

I am thinking this one...

is this ok?

Hello strangerthings,

I was more or less in the same boat as you. Since I'm using a PCIe board, my
options were more limited.

According to this thread:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=172822&highlight=softquadro

The 6800GS AGP your looking to get can be softmodded into a Quadro 4000.

There's also a step by step guide showing you how to go about it.

I can only assume it will outperform your current Quadro 700.

Update...

got the card... little bit of fiddling to get the drivers working... but it's there...

seeing it as FX4000!! And Blimey does it fly!!! I can't belive the bitmap resoulotions now compared to the old card.

basically a £1500 card for £130! And is a 512mb card

I installed the standard driver to begin with.

then rivatuner mod.

Then I installed the nvidia 84.22 forceware driver http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1365

now getting about 35fps in max

I just tried quadro again and used nvida quadro drivers.
Results in maya are same and sometimes even slighty worse.
I tested using SW ad HW in view port.
So I'm back to normal 6800 Ultra and latest drivers, good enough right now :)

just checked the maya test... getting about 50fps. Does depend on the set up I suppose.

was it showing as a fx4000 in the hardware? Took me a while to get that working. It kept showing as the 6800.
