Hello,
Where is the Maya assets (not collada !) import / export in 5.1 - which was advertised as one of the main achievments of this release 5.1 ? all there is in the import / export menues is 3dsmax import / export.

--------------------------------------------------------
Support for Autodesk® 3ds Max® & Maya® assets
With enhanced support for both import and export of assets from applications such as Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya, incorporating SOFTIMAGE|XSI v.5.1 into a games pipelines has never been easier.
--------------------------------------------------------

If this feature has been removed, does anyone know if it will be added at a later point ?
Softimage should clarify this because this feature is advertised.

I thought I read somewhere that these wre plugins for the progams that would (I assume) export to XSI. I can't remember where I saw this though.

i knew this question would come up in the forums.

looks like we are going to have to wait a little while before we get the import / export :(
i don't want to stick my foot in it, so hopefully someone from soft can make an official statement?

File>Import>Maya

Thats where I see mine.

The thing that people need to have in mind is that you have to acutally have Max/Maya on your machine for it to work.

Its clever on how it works, but you still need to have them on your machine to work.

buy point oven and Use that if you Really need it ( worth every cent of that $99 )
http://www.ef9.com/ef9/PO.htm

Install that to you copy of Max/maya/Lightwave/C4D/Messiah And you have the most solid Import/export of 3D animation data Going around.

Well maybe not true
I don't uses Maya or Max & Don't have them installed on my XSI machine.

so how does it work for Max / Maya ?
can you import Max / Maya Character animation data using the the new tools in 5.1 ?
So you can Rig,animate in Maya and then render in XSI ?

Hmmmm....

I just installed XSI 5.1 as an upgrade from 5.01....

I have maya 7 complete installed,

but I dont have that mysterious option that Isaw posted... file>import>maya...

is it possible that it didnt install the plugin because I upgraded from 5.01 rather than uninstalling and re-installing?

I would love to see how functional this translator really is.

for an xsi<->maya, you can try colladaMaya.
