Title: VW Bora
Name: Mark Mobley
Country: United Kingdom
Software: LightWave 3D

Model of a VW Bora, with interior, modelled and rendered in Newtek Lightwave 3D 8. This model was used to display several car accessory items for a recent freelance job. This was my first car model, and drew several modelling techniques from Dan Ablan's Inside Lightwave [8] Chevy Corvette tutorial. Comments are very welcome. Thanks for looking.

you need to sharpen your seams. The car looks like it's about to melt or something. I have to agree with the comment about the interior, it's not very nice. Maybe if you had textured it differently

Yeah the interior brings the whole rating of the car down quite a bit!

Hello everybody,

Thanks for the comments, you've pretty much summed up all the things I'm not so happy with about the model. That said, it was my first attempt at a car, and if I was to redo it there are several things I would do differently.

The parts I had the most trouble with were the seams, and several wrong decisions at the start on the topology of the car made later seam editing very difficult. They are too soft at the moment, and although I could probably fix them a little if Lightwave had edge weighting tools, I think I need to redo them to stop the car looking so clay-like and to get sharper corners...

The interior is very basic, and was attempted largely because I didn't like the look of the car with black windows. In particular, there is no detail on the inside of the doors. My next one should be better! The wheels are also very basic, with a simple bump map for the treads, and alloys that were done quickly to finish the model on time.

Other than that, I reasonably happy with the car exterior (although as mentioned the reflections are pretty strong...). I've certainly learnt a lot which will come in handy for the next car I model. I didn't want to do anything too pretty without knowing how to do it properly (I can't think of anything that would look sadder than a wonky, ill-proportioned Aston Martin model).

Again, loads of thanks for all the responses. I may put up a wire-frame and some different views if I can get round to it (got loads of work on at the moment, and personal projects don't pay the bills!)

M :)

I've made a few tweaks to the car (in particular, I've tried to harden the seams). Unfortunately, I can't find the scene file I used originally, so the lighting is a little different. I think this is about as far as I want to go with this model; it's still not perfect, particularly the interior, and there are a few things I'd do differently next time round.
