Israel Enters Animation Market

A multimillion-dollar project in Jerusalem is designed to turn Israel into a major force in the animation and gaming field.
February 28, 2006

Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP) debuted Israel’s first-ever media center on Tuesday, along with a multimillion-dollar animation studio, in an effort to turn Jerusalem into a major player in the animation and gaming field.

The startup, Jerusalem Animation Lab, will include an animation and gaming studio, as well as a development lab to create animation for cellular phones.

“Israelis have proven themselves as leaders in technology, and now is the chance to prove they can also be a major force in the content field,” said Erel Margalit, managing partner of JVP, a leading Israeli venture fund.

I hope, though that aiming to be "biggest studio outside the US" is actually backed by a more substantial goal. Being biggest in and of itself is kind of stupid. They need projects, and people paying for those projects.

Has anybody in Israel heard more about the studio?

perhaps they can start by doing an animation on the subjugation of palestine?

on the non political stance, its good news, diffrent country brings a diffrent style to the mix

Funded by Hollywood, Im interested in seeing an Israelie movie that doesnt include war, religion or feel sorry for me holocausts... Lets see if they can join the rest of the world with some great stories not just for their interests. Im sure there is potential here.

Let's keep politics off of these forums. Consider this a warning.

If I'm not mistaken, IDT DPS had a studio in Israel. It was shut down, but it predates this new studio.

There is a reason of the NO POLITICS RULE. This is my ONLY warning.

Considering all the movies I've seen from Israel, I'm sure they can talk of more things than those you usually read in newspapers.

A friend was working as animator at a studio in Israel some years ago but they closed due some bombings. I hope this venture goes well.

That's a sensible rule but one that's probably just about impossible to inforce with any discussion involving Israel. I see this thread getting shut down fast.

Man you guys have gone thru some heavy brain washing...

Israel is not just about the middle east crissis, bombings etc. there are studios in Israel fighting to create quality content which is advanced and funny.

we are currently animating a flying dog :) and we`ve already crunched 45 minutes of it thru our Pipeline, rendered and delivered, it will air in germany by the way.

so keep you eyes open...

Good luck for JVP and for all the Israeli studios ;)

lets stick to doing crazy things in 3d and not in the real world...

I don't see why this thread can't simply be about CG! Israel's a country, and like any other, it has its problems. There's CG in the Phillipines, China and other parts of the world where there can be heated opinions about the political issues of those countries. This is a CG forum. There shouldn't have to be mods enforcing rules. Grow up, people.

I think it's great that they're trying to create content now, rather than just develop technology. I hope they learn from the mistakes of DPS. These people certainly seem determined.

Isreal has developed an enormous amount of computer technology, that is used today. I wonder how they will fair as service based companies since that requires a totally different kind of talent pool.

P.S goto CNN for politics...

I think what's funny about this thread is that the title is almost "non news" item. Why not focus on the company and its capacity to apply innovative technologies or produce original animated content or features and not its location.
