Title: Pearl
Name: Melanie Delon
Country: France
Software: Photoshop

Hi there, this is my latest painting, her name is Myrhaelle and she lives alone on an island, she is the last descendant of the lords of this earth. She spends her days in the ruins of the ancient city, and often when the wind rises and blow through the walls of the old city she plays the luth in memorie of the past... and who knows maybe one day someone will hear her song...

use no "photo ref" for the girl, as usual i'm the model.

Well hope you’ll like it, c&c are welcome , thanks

So this explains why i'm hearing late night music... everynight... where is this island?... must give her a foot massage or foot spa...

the face and the foot are very strong magnetic poles here...

face is very beatiful and painted well .... NORTH POLE

right foot has a very unnatural pose... SOUTH POLE ... kinda makes the mind think why she's doin that... is it an ant or simply that the foot's tired and must change position... then the camera caught it...

is it night or day? <---don't explain i understand what you meant...

wish to draw people and clothes like this... saves me a lot than to pay for live models or 3d posers.

Very beautiful, I'm not always aware ofthe meaning of all the symbolism but my brain says the sea is a bit too bright. I usually trust it, well, mostly...

You're very good ad smoothly rendering forms, it's a lot of fun to watch! :D

What a lovely painting. I am amazed that you use yourself as reference, especially for the feet. I like the odd positioning of them. Do you have a step by step reference of how you created the painting and if so can we see it? I am intrigued with the fabric and would love to see how it was created.

Wow, I can't believe I never saw your work before! You have some amazing pieces, and this one is just gorgeous! I love how you paint feet and hands, they always look so graceful.

I really like the story behind this piece too. It's so sad and mysterious. Beautiful work.

So you use yourself as a model for your painting, huh? I've been trying that out lately, but it hasn't be working extremely well since I keep having the camera up too high and it warps my proportions, hehe.

Really nice work.

Fantastic. Nice work on the face. 5 stars. I'm gonna get nit-picky though. My eye was immediately drawn to the soft edges on her right foot and I didn't like them. Too many sharp edges on less important things for her feet to be so soft. The tree in the background should have been soft. The architecture isn't in perspective and the bird doesn't look like it's finished. The clouds are kinda weird in the background too, they look like outer space dust fields or something. But that's all getting nit-picky. Again, fantastic work on the face. Keep it up - beaux

Your work overal looks gracefull, colorful and moody. Your cloth and skin is nicely rendered.

There are some minor improvements that could be made. For instance, your hands look as though they are captured by a different light source than the one we see reflected off the head and shoulders. The clouds could be a little more dynamic. And the light source in the background looks as though it's coming from the water, which is ok if that is what you intended. Most importantly however is her expression. She is lonely and melancholy for the days of old. Her expression should show this to help the viewer understand her predicament.

Beautiful work. I look forward to seeing more of you're stuff.

My own impression was that I really like this piece. Very well done indeed. The only thing that stood out negatively for me was the toes on the right foot. Specifically the toe next to the big toe... seems a bit odd.

But everything else I really liked. The perspective I thought was fine. And the shining sea I thought was fine too... the glow IS kind of unnatural, but it has a mystical feeling to it that I think works well in the piece.

Kind of makes me think of Spartali-Stillman or perhaps Bougereau, except that the colors would be too dark and subdued for a S-S.

Very beautiful once more Melanie.
I agree with a previous poster that she looks somehow from Portugal like the painting with the gypsy girl and the cat.

I am just a bit confused when you say "no photo reference used for the girl / as always I am the Model". You look in the mirror and use yourself as model for all the details? Or what do you mean?

I am also wondering if you can paint so amazingly realistic looking fabrics by heart or if you use fabrics next to you while painting.

Well! I also like the mood as almost everyone, and the textures and lightning looks superb for me. But i think, even when it is not visible, the part of the leg that goes from the knees to the feet is too short compared with the thighs. I mean, if you look at the whole composition, you´ll realize how short these are, or how big the head is compared to the legs. Appart from that, for me the feet are too strange, too forced too.
Congratulations anyway cause it´s a very good painting anyway

Of course some things could have been better. I agree with some of the comments on the feet and on the sky and water and I could also add some small crits myself which haven't been mentioned yet. OK, I will do it since I'm here. The separation in her hair doesn't seem to be in the right place. About her legs being too short - no, I don't think so, however the muzzle in her leg seems to round too low - the rounding of it should have started higher up under her skirt. I think it's because of that, that some people found her legs too short. Very, very little to do about that really .... Anyway, a very impressive picture Melanie !

But look at the Rubens picture below. Everybody can agree that it's a very, very appealing painting - nice to look at. However, it is true that her breasts are a little bit bizarre .... very small and almost just under her throat. Everybody noticed that I guess. Imagine what she would look like without clothes. Looking at it again, I notice that her ear is much too big and also placed very much too high compared to her eyes .... well, Rubens is considered as one of the great masters ! Perhaps details like that don't really matter that much ....

That is so true, people can't understand that people differ a lot. F.i. My feet are so small that if I were to paint them everybody would say I must have painted them wrong, cause no one has feet like that. Yet they do exist, I love them, they work really well for me ;) They just aren't extra-perfect extra-beautiful and extra-anatomically-correct feet. When I watch people around me I'm always amazed how they differ amongst each other. Sometimes they look like cartoon characters, yet in paintings we all able to accept only extremely beautifull or extremely ugly people (extra ugliness can't count for a mistake, can it? ;) )

I must say I enjoy your amount of detail and the time you have put into producing it all. You also seem to have very solid anatomy and natural poses (which I can't personally produce too well). That said, I think there is one thing that might enhance the overall visuals: you don't seem to use bounced light/color in your images, which leaves colors pure, but a little unrealistic. Also, I personally like when images have a little bit more texture to them.

I did a quick tweak to your image (I do hope it is ok), by adding a few layers of different textures, adding an overall tint of earth and painting in some bounced color as well as added some saturation to the more bright area. The effect is subtle but perhaps enhances the overall experience.

You know, I looked at the different artwork in your portfolio, and I wondered, "Do you ever get tired of compliments?" I mean, I love everything about your women: the subtleties of light and shadow, the great soft and blended skin tones, the perfect proportions and perspective, the texture and folds and layers of the clothes, the atmospheric perspective and selective "depth-of-field", and well, just everything. You're one of the best for sure. I get some compliments on my work, but i never really feel I deserve any, because I think of the few people like you who just leave me awe struck at what a genius you are at creating beauty, and do you see what I mean? I'm just going on and on about it. Most of what I do, and what I plan to do also, has a girl or woman in it, and welll, my wife is not too crazy about that, but hey, not only do they have clothes on, but that is part of the fun; you just can't costume men or boys with the pretty stuff, at least I don't want to. I guess I'm more than a little jealous of you, but you are really an inspiration for me to continue improving.

The most beautiful work I've ever seen...
I was wondering if you have any tutorials on your process and technique?

Thank you,
