Ok, This took me about 2 days to color. It's my first serious CG in a while. Do you have any advice on how to improve this piece colorwise? I want to add special effects or something. Any good tutorials on that?

Cool work man!
Well...I think it would be really interestin' to color this pic'...because of the number of details. I agree with you, some lil' effects (like some glows on those metal parts) will do the trick too...
For your color, I think we can see too much the way you color it...try to smooth your color a lil' and you'll see better your linework. For your linework btw, copy it in a new layer (in photoshop or Painter7) and use the "multiply" option...then you'll have a heavier linework!

Btw, is it your drawin' (coz I like it a lot!)?

Thanxs guys!

I'll try to darken the line quality and add more details to the tatoo as wel as some special effects :)

And yes this is my (ahem crudy) line art. I really wasn't that pleased with it though, I can do much better. I only made this piece to color it.

thanx again!

...good influence!

Dang, Ageless! That's one mean-looking art you got there!

And you did it in 3 hours?
Just a bit comments from me:

- the light looks a bit too ambient. It's noticable that the lightsource is on the right side of the image (left side of the guy), but then the dark shades neet to be strengthen a bit.

- the inside of the cloth around his waist should be a lot darker, since it receives only a little light.

- the tattoo (cool dragon! :bounce: ) should follow the contour of his body more, especially near the side of the body and the hand. They look a bit flat.

Hope those helps :) But they're not necessarily correct, tho. I'm just a beginner :p

Please keep on posting!

Your understanding of muscle structure is good. keep at it. I agree that the colors need to be smoother. The chunkiness of the gradations takes away from the wonderful character design. There are some wonderful tutorials at http://www.hallsofcreation.com I found these extremely helpful.
Keep at it.

Impressing piece.. I like the colors. The only suggestion I could give is to add some textures... skin for example.. just slightly of course. The drawing is cool.. especially for a oh-I-did-this-just-to-color-it-drawing. ;) Shows a lot of talent.

nice colouring, but try to do some shadowing, like brightening and darkening the colors in the right places, ya know. and i agree with the 'glow on the metal' comment, too, it would be great.
and a background just so it wont seem like rushed, but something simple like a blurred forest, just a black gradient would be nice :)

Nice job!! my sugestion is to highlight the muscles a bit more .... and emmm lets add a lens flare effect (without lens reflectivity) to the edge of the belt-buckle. You can also add more glossiness to the metal parts.

i'm waiting for your next version :airguitar

I would suggest not using the dodge/burn tool to do your shadows and highlights. (at least, that's what it looks like) Try to work different colours into your image. Instead of just adding white and black to your base colour, (which is what the dodge/burn tool does) try adding light yellow for highlights and deep purple for shadows. Those are the colours you would get in a natural outdoor setting...any combination of complementary colours can work. It will give your painting a much richer feel.
