Hey guys.
I want to make a cable/wire that "grows" from the ground.I guess I'll have to create a spline, move some points etc.(so I don't have a linear animation), and then add a cylinder/tube that "grows" along that spline path, but I don't really know how I could do this(or ever if it's possible).

Any pointers?!

There are lots of ways to do this. The easiest and fastest would probably be to have two splines: one that will be the wire, and one that will be it's cross section (most likely a small NURBs circle).

Extrude the circle along the path, and then animate the distance over time (I believe it will be in the attribute editor of the object that is created).

Wow!... That was fast :).
I'll try this method.
Hope it works :)

It will work for sure, but I may have told you the wrong place to look for animating the growth of the wire. I don't have Maya in front of me at the moment.

If you get stuck, PM me and I'll work up a quick sample file for you this week.

Good luck!

I hope I won't have to bother you.
I used to know how to do this but I haven't touched Maya for about 2 years :D (I got a quick 2 year ride with Max and Blender but...GLAD TO BE BACK! :)
