my current setup is a

a7n8x deluxe rev 2 1008
xp 3200+ 2.2 ghz
1 gig corsair ram pc3200 2-3-3-8
1 ide 120 wd
2 sata 200 wd
geforce 6800 gt
sb live z2 audigy
550 watt psu

nothing is overclocked.
no games installed.
just basically multimedia software.

what happens when i reboot is that i'm able to get post.
i get the windows xp prof logo.
then what happens is that after the windows xp logo screen, my monitors go out as if they were in "standby" mode and then it just hangs there.
no hd activity no nothing.

i've done a total reinstall of windows and it's still doing it. :banghead:
i ran memtest for about 12 hours and recieve 0 errors.

it seems like the only way i'm able to get into windows is that i need to set the mhz speed from 200 to something like 166 or lower.

there are times when i'm in the bios settings for the clock speed that my pc just reboots when i'm trying to set the clock speed.

sigh....
i'm clueless as to what it may be.
any ideas as to why this is happening?
thanks

i think i might be able to help you, i had a similar problem with my new computer, and it would just turn on, and stall at the windows boot screen, and sometimes it would just not even recognise the hard drive.

now this may not help you at all, but it could be a hard drive issue, i dont know exactly what your problem is, but i spent a week on my new computer and i was freaking out only to have found out it was a hard drive issue.

It appears that you have a sata HD, most new hard drives have a new function on them called native command qeueing, and this can cause complete system instability,

if you can restart, then hold F8 and see if you can get in to safe mode, this worked for me.

then right click my computer and go to properties, then hardware, then device manager, then ide ATA. ATAPI Controllers then click serial ata contorllers. (there might be more than one) then click primary channel and uncheck native command queuing, do this for all sata drives, and also check secondary channel.

then restart.

i do appreciate your help.

few days ago i tested to see if it was my hard drive so i took another (newer) drive from my external unit and it does the same exact thing.

my primary boot drive that contains my os is an ide drive.
i do not see the option you are telling me to look within the device manager.

thanks

Simple, restart your computer.. use F8 to get to the options screen..
and start in VGA mode.. when you get to windows, go to your video
settings lower your resolution and restart your computer.

tell me how this works for you.. as im sure its the prollem. your windows
res is higher that your monitor can support.

i've ran 1600x1200 on both monitors for years.
why would lowering my resolution fix this issue?
thanks

Does your system boot up in safe mode?

there are times when it boots into safe mode with no problem and there are times when it doesn't.
and there are times when i'm unable to even get F8 to come up.

Did you recently add new hardware to the system? You've already tested for memory issues, I'd go ahead and test power issues next.

Unplug all the hd's and cdrom's except the boot drive. See if the problem reoccurs.

Can you boot into safemode?

well i found out what was wrong.
it was the video display driver....go figure.
but i would never suspect to my vid driver to screw up my booting right after post.

all of this happened because i was unable to preview the hd quicktime movies on apple.com.
any hd movie would either lock up while playing or won't play at all....just audio.
my vid driver was fairly old so i updated it to the latest driver

Version: 84.21
Release Date: March 17, 2006

installed the latest driver and restarted my pc.
i was able to view the hd quicktime movie w/ no problem.
mind you i always keep my pc on.
it shuts down approx 10+ times a year.

so after installing the latest driver my pc hasn't been off since the installation of the latest vid driver.

after swapping out a hard drive this is when all this non-sense started happening.
i now have to find the latest drivers that won't prevent my os from booting.

i thank you all for your support.
i do appreciate it.
