Nobody knows when Apple will release an x86 workstation. It's a company famous for its secrecy, so don't expect them to announce anything before it is released.

Some people are hoping it will be released mid-year. I put my bets on late 2006. Possibly even released at the MacWorld expo in Jan 2007. But we don't know.

Price? There's no reason why an x86 machine would be cheaper than PowerPC. More likely to be marginally more expensive. But once again, we don't know.

If you like speculation, here's some Mac rumor sites:

http://www.thinksecret.com/

http://www.appleinsider.com/

http://www.macosrumors.com/

*ThinkSecret is the most reliable of them.

In the meantime, there's nothing wrong with the current G5 machines. The Quad G5 is the fastest of all machines in both Luxology and Maxon benchmarks.

Well intel is knowed to be 1. slow a$$ processors for real. and 2. are cheaper. i was hoping to get a lower price. late 2006 sounds good to me. The real buff for me will be a GPU unit rather then this imac 32mb BS I am runing world of warcraft on now.

I might pick up a power PC mac just because I want everything to be able to run. give time for my apps to be ported over to the new hardware. in fact that sounds like a good idea
