I'm in the process of teaching myself Maya and have thought about getting Modo. I liked my experience with the trial and like where I see Luxology taking it. However, I wonder if by doing my modelling in Modo, I would undermine my ability to use Maya well. Would I be hindered by doing my primary modelling in Modo, rather tha Maya? While it is too early in my learning for me to know what area of 3D I would like to focus on, my early interest is in texturing and lighting, so modelling may not be a critical part of my toolset.

Thanks

In my experience maya's modelling tools do fall behind other apps such as modo or even freebies such as wings, however I'd suggest sticking with learning one at a time...

After all there's scripts and plugins to help and enhance maya if you really need them. The other advantage is that in the process you'll be making yourself more familiar with the interface and picking up other areas of it as you go along.

Save great tools like modo for when you're exhausted maya's own toolset. That way while still learning, you're bound to get deeper into maya much quicker.
