I dont try it in 3ds max version 5... but in early versions you can just place splash.bmp(your picture there) in /3dsmax/ dir.

max 5 seems to use a flash object embedded into a HTML file. There's also a splash.cfg file that tracks your present hotkeys.

If you want see only your splash without the hotkey map, you can move splash.swf files from the max5 root. Warning! In main menu...help...hotkey map appears in white. But isn´t a big problem.:wavey:

i think splash sould have some advice to maxers, not techical but concerning art and such things .
we should put the pic of girlfriend when starting max to do not forget her when being with max :)

Just grabbed an old render and slapped it into the root dir. I think its a nice greeting for me when I start MAX up, granted it was a very early render (6 months into MAX :wip: ) and it looked good to me and my employer.

You can't change the Brazil r/s splash screen's content. You can change some of the parameters, though.. but for that.. there's the official support forum.

well i did not make it myself (and sorry but i can't recall who made it and where i did find it), but here's what i'd been using with Max4..

to change the bitmap in MAX5, simply open the flash file(splash.fla) in the directory and replace with desired image, publish the flash file as the name (splash.swf) and done.

In Brazil I beleive you need to use the ResHack program to open the EXE file, sonce open replace the bitmap with your image, and recompile EXE. However I'll come back and verify this since I have not changed this in brazil yet.

you all have some really cool splash screens!! This may sound like a silly question, but seeing as the max 5 splashscreen is of the .swf format, does that mean you can have an element of animation in there? hhmmm... sounded sillier in my head!!

All you need to do is save a pic as splash.bmp to your root max dir and if you want it to stay the same throughout the loading or have an animation while it loads the plugins save the same file (or animation) as splash.swf in the same dir. You can use Uleads GIF Animator to save the SWF file which is what I use.

I was just wondering if I made a flash file, that loads a random splash-image from a folder when it loads and replaced the original splash.swf with it, wouldn't I get the possibility to use many splashscreens simultaneously? ;)
