I would like to have your opinion about this walkcycle, Don't pay attention to the rigging of the body and props, it's still not finished. Just tell me if the animation looks realistic.

here's the file:

The lower body moves really well, but there is something I kinda don't like in the shoulders and the arms, try to adding more follow through to the arms right now the arm swing is too tight, the cycle is too obvious... I guess your legs move too well that in comparison the arms look bad, for the shoulders they look ok in front & back view but the side view (probably because of the arm swing) they look to stiff... maybe tilting the shoulders from side to side...

I've changed the arm swing and also the legs, just a bit.

Animation looks good,

However the body's proportions are a little off. Her head is very small ("heroic" proportion), but also the arms are too short and her hands are too small.

It's almost as if the top part of the body (above the chest) is from a different person.

With that being said, she walks in a surly, manly manner - a warrior woman who walks like a man - not sure if that was your intention, but it looks appropriate with the outfit.

Sorry, I really don't think her arms a too short look at the picture.
the head is not so small, just a bit, but I want it like this.

"With that being said, she walks in a surly, manly manner - a warrior woman who walks like a man - not sure if that was your intention, but it looks appropriate with the outfit."

for this, you're completely right.

here's the side view Ewan lee, I still got some problems with the leg movement but I thinks the arms are good now don't you?

The shoulders are moving much better now, are you turning the shoulders only or the ribcage as well?

I kinda figured it out now, there is no noticeable follow through in the arms... try swinging your arms back and forth... when the arm goes back it does not straighten that much (it looks good in you animation) but when it swings forward when the shoulder joint reaches it's maximum point the elbow joint keeps rotating for a while (the lower arm keeps moving) that's the "follow through action" the mass of the lower arm and the hand keep moving...

Now it looks OK but because everything seems to move & stop at the same time I am afraid the cycles are still too visible...

For the proportions there are a couple of problem areas:

1. The shoulders seems too narrow (at least for me), but it's related to the next problem.

2. The biggest problem is that the torso is way too long, I hope you don't mind, I overlayed some notes over your rendering, the distance between the bottom end of the ribcage and the top of the pelvis it "generally" between 2 to 3 fingers (try by yourself to feel the bones) I have personally seen people with a wider gap but generally all the other proportions then follow (you get the tall skinny girl\guy), you just have to shorten the gap this is a quick fix and it will look much better.

3. The upper leg is a bit too long the keecap should be a bit higher.

4. Usually the lenght hand is equal the distance from the chin to the eyebrows, in your case the proportion in relation to the head is correct... but it's true the hands llok small...

The point is that all this are "ideal proportions" there's really one rule: if it looks good it's right.

But I'll tell you what my life drawing instructor used to say : "Hands? Always better bigger than smaller!"

back to work now!

You WANT to make it reeeeelly good right?

woaw! thanks for such a long and interresting reply

I think you're right for ther proportions, especially for the shoulders and the upper legs, i got a doubt about it, I think I will adjust the body height by reducing the torso so I get the average size between the present heigth and the height of the modified image you made.
