View Full Version : FR2 license is suddenly not working...help!
talos72 03-31-2006, 01:13 AM I already posted on Cebas forum, but figured here too.
Problem:
I suddenly can't load FR2 into Cinema 4D. When trying to load in Render Settings, I get an Error "License for this application/version not found, please request license".
I open IPClamp, when I click on Request tab I get another error "Existing license file is unusable on this computer". Then I click under Licenses tab, and there is no licenses visible under "Available Licenses".
I don't know what I need to do. I just sent an email to Cebas, but I was wondering if there is something I can do.
Thanks.
PS. under services, IP_Clamp is running too.
update: when in C4D, I receive "error-21" after it fails to load FR.

did you change the computer you setup IP-clamp on?
Or did you change the network card in the computer?
IP-clamp attaches itself to your pc network card. so once you request the license from a machine you cannot change it to another machine. if you want to move IPClamp to another computer you mest move the network card you attached it to also.
this, BTW is absolutely most irritating thing about FR2.

No I did not change any hardware. The only thing I can think of may be that some of the IPClamp files got corrupted or are missing. In either case, I would like to know what I need to do. I haven't heard back from Cebas yet.
I also find the license setup somewhat irritating for FR. From the beginning when I saw how the license was generated I had a feeling it was going to be trouble.

How did you get your license, by mail from cebas or online update?
When did you authoraize your license?
If you don't change network card on your PC, you should reauthoraize by IP-Clamp application.
Open Request tab and enter your license code.
And then click Add button and Online Update button.
Also you can see your licence status on license tab.

I did get my license through email.
Just got an email from Edwin about my license server IP was somehow changed and so FR can't see the license.
Under the request tab of IP Clamp, as mentioned, the Add field is grayed out.
I am not sure how to check the IP of my license server and how to fix this problem still.
I would appreciate a step-by-step if possible.
I do bring my laptop to work and use my work's wireless network to link to the internet. I am wondering if that could cause problems somewhere.
Thanks

This sounds like the stupid licence server problems a friend has with his 3ds max Mental ray licences.
Soft-Dongles suck big time and are a menace to paying customers .

I answered you on the Cebas forum already, but here is a more detailed explaination :
- since your server IP changed somehow, you'll need to request your license again, so first open your IPclamp program folder and delete the file named "IPclamp.lic" file. This file holds your license information, so deleting it will reset your license.
- Then, open the IPclamp program and under the "settings" tab, you will see your current server IP, as well as the desired port to use and the mask adress. This is the server that will be used for your new request, so make sure it matches the computer you want to use as server (you should be able to know what's your server current IP by yourself, if you need to check through Windows).
- go into the "request" tab, and add the Final Render license code Cebas provided to you (make sure to click "add" to add it to the list of requested licenses)
- then add the C4D plugin license code into the request too (both FR and the c4d plugin connection need licensing)
- you are all set, just click the "online update" button, and it should update automatically
You can check if everything is running fine by checking the "licenses" window. It should display two licenses running.
*edit
If you need to check your current IP through WIndows XP, just open your network connections and double-click on the "local area connection" icon. It will open that connection's window status. Go into the support tab to see the current IP in use for the connection.
*edit2
If somehow the online update is not working, or if you have any trouble while using the online request feature, just click the "request" button instead. This will generate a request file for your licenses, that you can then email to Cebas.
They respond usually really fast.

I really appreciate your responses. Very helpfull.
As an update, I have been testing my current license, and the issue seems to indeed be the changing of IP due to me linking to my work's wireless network. I took my laptop home, and FR loads properly and I can see my existing licenses in IPClamp. At least I can still run FR at home, but I can't use FR when my laptop is at work. I assume there is no real fix for this issue.
In either case, I really hope Cebas will address the licensing issue especially for many users who have laptops. Many more users nowadays use laptop as their main workstation, and this problems with IPClamp setup seems to really hit laptop users.
Again, thanks for the CG community for your help.

If you setup your license using your laptop's network card, you shouldn't have any problem moving it around, I think.
I've never tried, though, but I remember Edwin stating something like this.
The license is linked to the network adapter you setup in the beginning, and DR machines can change at will.
