Hello all,

Happy Holidays to everyone. I have finally started pre-production on a new cg Short titled "Derdekea." The look of the short leans more towards a simplistic, somewhat painterly feel rather than a realistic approach. I have some preliminary, pre-production images of the two central characters. Comments and constructive criticism are welcomed. I am also in the process of updating and re-designing my website, so have a look and enjoy. I'd love to get some feedback, thanks.

check out my website for older short animations, and let me know what you think, thanks.

The female character looks somewhat anime-inspired, but the male character looks more like the typical american cartoon style. Then you have this very realistic looking tank. In other words, they don't look like they come from the same world... consistency consistency...

The characters' bodies look out of proportion, out of shape but not in the good, exaggerated cartoon way. The tattoo on the male character's face looks very simple, and not very stylish... I feel as though more thought could go into its design. For example, you could give him more style by personifying his character as an animal tattoo.

I feel like your strong point is your mechanical modelling, and that perhaps you should focus more on inorganic shapes and models. For example the gun models on your website and this tank look awesome. This is where your talent and skills seem to shine most.

thanks for the feedback,

I really appreciate your input especially in the concept/preproduction stages of the project. You provided alot of usefull info. Oh yeah, by the way the tank is not part of the cg short, I wanted to hear what people thought about the tank too without posting a new thread.

Stylistically, the two characters are to appear visually different... (important to the storyline) but they are bound together by a specific design that is consistant throughout the story. As far as proportional anatomy, the characters were modeled based on intentionally modified anatomical diagrams of the "ideal" french man and woman from the early 70's...strange I know...but done to get away from the cliche comic book hero build and because of the setting of the story.

Once again, I really appreciate you taking the time to provide very helpful and constructive criticism, ...You Rock jfalconer! As the character design develops further I will post more. Time to Design and Refine!!!
