View Full Version : Vray Vs Menral Ray
royterr 03-30-2006, 05:39 PM What is the equivilent of Vray sky and Sun light (max) in mental ray using Maya?
Would it be simply using an hdri for sky and a directionel or point light for the sun?
It just seem that those 2 elements are incredably accurate (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=336093)

What are you talking about? max has image based lighting...
I think he was refering to the IBL node in maya, which basically sets up a sphere ready for IBL emission with several attributes to play with:thumbsup:

have u ever see the ibl node in maya?? where are the envsky (aka physical sky) in max?? how u can control the FG influence? the visible influence? emitting direct light by ibl? emitting photons by ibl? the FG scale? the FG presample density? .... ... ... . . . . ...........

So i was right guys : Skylight in max = ibl in Maya
sunlight in max = spot, point, directional light in maya.
But how is the skylight used in max : do use it with photons, Fg rays, area light?
