Connect outAlpha from texture node to transparency in your shader.

In Hypershade click on the arrow at the bottom right of your texture swatch and choose outAlpha. This will give you a line that you can move around with your mouse. Position your mouse over the material swatch or any other node that you want to be connected with the alpha and click on it. This will pop up a menu with attributes from the node that can be connected to the alpha. If you don’t see the attribute you are looking for in the pop up menu list, choose Other from the bottom of it to open the Connection Editor which can display a full list of all attributes.
If your texture doesn’t have an alpha mask, Maya will convert and use the color as a grayscale image which Maya calls it Luminance.
If your texture has an alpha mask, Maya will use it for the transparency in the default connections. If you want to override a default connection and use the Luminance instead of the alpha in the Color Balance section of the texture node, check Alpha is Luminance.
Edit: to create an alpha use programs that can do that, like Photoshop and Maya.
In Photoshop, the first button at the bottom of the layer’s palette will create an alpha channel that you can put anything you like in there as a grayscale image. In Maya just render something with alpha checked in the Render Globals.
After done, make sure to save it in a file format that supports alpha. File formats like Tiff and Tga can have alpha channel and some other formats like jpg cannot.
thanks for all your help, will get in-depth with them
