View Full Version : yet another Rhinoman
Hi all, this is my version of a Rhinoman ( I don't want to make a realistic man or rhino,
so proportions are not natural..). C & C are welcome.
Ciao :)

very nice muscle definition, and the head looks boss. What software did you use to model this? (looks like 3dsMax)

Cant find anything I dont like about this so far, but if I was being really picky maybe his head is back a bit to far. Good job on the anatomy.
Thanks a lot for C & C :)
z1Lch : I'm using XSI and I think I will give(?) him more detail with Zbrush.
Ciao :)
Sorry for my English...

Really nice body !
It reminds me the one of the "kind-of-orc" you did before (or maybe it wasn't from you)...
There's just something bothering me, about how the head is merged with the body... I mean, it doesn't feel natural... Well, that could just be me too... but I think you should try lowering it a bit, so that his neck gets shorter but thicker...
Thanks Happy Cookie.
Yes, the "kind of orc" was from me.
I don't know if I understood(?) about neck ( more short?) .
Ciao :)

As the clavical progresses to the front of the neck there is a large recesion. It could be thats just how Rhino mens' throats are.

Hi Buuu!
Wow, looking good! I do have one thing I want to point out. The fingers I think are a tad too short, I know its not supposed to be proportioned to a human, but I don't think he would be able to grip anything with those!
Keep at it, I can't wait to see the Zbrushed vesion!

very awesome work man love the flow of the shoulders and neck up to the head very well done
are u planning to have it as a tribal creature with like primitive cloth and maybe sum tarzan like jungle clothes cuz i think thatd be a dope style but whats so awesome bout your character is you could also make him modern lol maybe a sharp mafia suit and make him look like a big rhino mobster or something haha
love the design great work!
cant wait to see the finished product.

The muscles are good however the back diserve a little improvement ;)
I like it ! Keep Going!!
I rate for you
Thanks a lot for replies... :)
MuhammadAzam : Yes, you are right about fingers...( I saw your rhinoman and I liked your
updates!). Unfortunately(?) I can't get more than 4 subdivision with Zbrush, so I can't get
what I want and I don't know if I will continue with it...
Skooter : Yes, I was thinking something like that.. I would like to make something funny...
Vadonia : Thanks a lot

Nice! I prefer XSI for modelling organic forms. Can we see a wiremesh? (the smooth + is handy isnt it)

Hey Buuu, that bit you've done on the head so far looks really great! Is that at 4 subdivisions? 4 should be enough, no? I've never really gone more than 4 or 5! But you could always use the Ctrl+Shift hide all but rectangle tool, to eliminate visibility on most of the mesh if its casuing you trouble? Oh not sure you know this, but if you do that, don't subdivide without unhiding everything first!! Sorry if I'm boring you with this spiel if you already know your way around Zbrush. :D
Keep at it! Don't be discouraged if things don't work out all that well at first; I've deleted and remade parts of my rhino man many many times!
- Muhammad
Thanks for relpies :)
Thanks MuhammadAzam, I know about to hide portions of the mesh, but the problem
is I can't obtain(?) some particulars like wrinkles...I will try to get more of it with XSI
so I hope I can get better with Zbrush...thanks again for the info :)

Ya know I really don't understand the ratings in this forum (sometimes very inconsistent). There are a couple of threads up now that really don't diserve the stars their getting (just my opinion don't freak out)
But yet for example this thread has none?!
I really like what you've done so far, you've really managed to mesh the rhino and man together well. I love the muscle really well done.
If anything I would keep working on the feet and hands (though their not bad at all)

Looking awesome... I'd be interested to see it when you've detailed the body a bit more to make it look more like the head; the head surface detail is so much better than the body's that it looks a bit out of place.
Very impressive model.

The 'low' poly mesh in XSI, do you get a decent framerate? How many polies is it?

Great job man!
Curious to see your rig set up. Mine is pretty simple, some strech bones and twist bone with the biped.
Look like he have the abs of Nasser Elsonbaty... so any way great job :D
Hope you will anim him!

 eek.i wouldn't wanna mess with this guy. i really like the style, great job. i think he would be perfect as the bad guy from the mutant turtles. lol. i was curious as to how u model your anatomy.. is it inspired through comics or real reference?
ximage
04-24-2006, 11:18 PM
man this is good solid work, really liking the muscles, cant wait to see more...... will look so much better if u made all his skin look like rhino skin. really insperational stuff dude. good work.

great work, i love all the details you put in your model.
the basemesh reminds me a lot of your orc character, it looks really cool. for the displacement, did you use multidisplacment maps or one big 4K map for the whole character?
would be cool to see this massive guy animated. :)
keep going.
qued88 , MichaelMotion , stouckol : Thank you very much guys :)
leprinoxyz : grazie amico ... e W l'Italia! :)
kirigoi , ximage : thanks. I can't get(?) more than 4 subdivisions with ZBrush but I think I will
give him more details with a bump map (I would like to try modo 201 or hexagon 2)
CoolDuck : thanks. The base mesh is 12074 quads. I made it for static poses, I don't think
I will animate(?) it.
bigguns : thanks. Wow, I saw your rig and I think is simply fantastic...mine is also very
simple (orientation constraint , expose transform , wire parameters), but is good for
extreme pose. About Nasser Elsombaty I think you are right!! His anatomy(?) influenced me
lots!

=3dlp= : thanks. I used real references only for the head .
D-E-A-N : thanks. Yes, proportions are very similar... I used multidisplacement maps.
(again compliments for your "fat mafia boss" !)

I never see a rig like that...
Can you explain more, what is skinned in that? Is it the dummy or the bone? I like the way the dummy are organised in the shoulder...
If you can do a tutorial that would be great.. that gave me new idea for rigging.
Mine is a lot more simple... it's the biped with some stretchy bone to gave more control.
thank's man!! Really great job! :D

THis is extremely impressive! I hope to learn anatomy this well! THe only crit I have is that with your displacement map, you probably should have went up to level 6. Than you could have used leathery skin alpha maps to work out amazing wrinkles for him. He's rather smooth right now.
foreverendering , maurocor , bigguns , Womball : Thank you very much for replies :)
bigguns : For the arms and the legs I have skinned only the dummy (green). I don't speak
English but I think I can explain the setup with some pics cuz is not very complex. I will post
it soon...
Womball : I think to solve this with a bump map...I can't go to level 6 unless I split(?) the
mesh.
Ciao :)

very nice anatomy, muscles / vains, all perfect
are you planning to detail the whole body as you did the head?
post an animation of him please, i'd love to see him in motion :)

You could do that, or you could hide and select regions that you detail. I'm not sure how you would make just a bump map in zbrush though.

Test for skin shader ... I don't know if I will finish this...no time by now, so I post here
the last updates.
bigguns: I'm really sorry! I tried to make a tut with only pics but is not possible and my
knowledge of English is too low(?). Sorry again.

wow, amazing work, it reminded me of Rocksteady, from the teenage mutant ninja turtles!
maybe you need to make him into Rocksteady, the badass beats it would be in a Hollywood movie! would look cool!

This guy looks soooo badasssss - like he could run right through a concrete wall and not break a sweat. You really got the attitude of the character right. Agree with Simon, it doesn remind me of Rocksteady, and also that Rhino villian from the Spider-Man comics. Unstoppable!

I think the skin shader needs some specular, its too diffused right now, making it look really dry and rough. Even rocks are shiny.
Really good modelling though!
Thank you very much guys
Hey, is the first time I see Rocksteady and you are right! It's very similar to this
character...I will try to find more pics of him...is a comic book or cartoon ?
Thanks again to everybody

Can't find much of him on google, heres some more:
http://www.empireislanduk.com/Pictures/turtles/figures/classic/rocksteady.jpg
http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Set/3995/icons/srocksteady.gif
He was a bad guy in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Rocksteady and Bebop (they were the dumbasses) :)
But in a Hollywood remake i'm sure they would make them badass like you are making it now.
So therefor it would be very cool to see this made into Rocksteady perhaps :p
The best sketches can be found here:

(thats where i found these two:)
