This is a REALLY rough sketch of my idea for the image. I work without penciling things out in painter.

There's an altrenate pose that I'm tossing around. I plan on doing a color mock of to see which one works better compositionally.

There's a lot of whitespace up top, but it'll be taken up by sky and stars.

Cool, I like the character but I donīt think hiding the face is a very good idea. I think showing his expression is better and that it gives a better feeling.
Mayb you should try a composition where he is facing the viewer, a 180 degrees turnaround :)
