View Full Version : Setting up bones
i run max5 and trying to do the character bone tutorial, when setting up the arm bones, when creating the first hand bone, clicking the end of the lower bone, the lower bone halves its length and nothing seems to conenct in the way the tutorial shows. Why does the lower bone changes the length, it should only connect to the end of it.

Dunno if this helps but.....
I use max 4 so i dunno if this is relevent to your question and from the sounds of things you might have the affect childern button switched on or something, its usually responsible for affecting the lenght of bones in max 4
hope this helps
Nope that wasnt the problem unfortunately. When this happens I can try to readjust the position of the bone by selecting dont affect children. When I move the end bone it seems like there is some scaling involved, because the bone I attatched the handbone to doesnt move as much as the selected one. I used the align too in recent operation, does this have anything to do with it?

Are you moving or rotating your bones?
Exactly as I attach the new bone to the old end it snaps to half its length, so I dont rotate or move. But if I move it behaves very funny.
