Here's a preview render of a scene I'm working on that will consist of an additional 4 robots. Crits are welcome.

Nice Work! Love it. Show us more!

Does Maxon know you stole their color scheme?
That's actually your dirty little plan isn't it? You're going to keep using that pallette until they submit and ask you for permission to use some of your art. :p

Have you used some kind of glow on that pic? It's just there seems to be a bit of glare... Unless it's just my eyes, which really wouldn't suprise me. :)

But anyway, if you did put glare on it, it works well, it sets off the pic nicely.

Looks very cool, Ethan!!
Is it all a straight render from C4D or did you do any postprocessing in Photoshop or something?

Phas, I immediately noticed that as well.

Ethan How did you acheive the haze around the highlights?

In post processing, my only guess would be to copy the layer, blur it, and set that layer to lighten. I love it though! You gotta let us in on how you did it! I've been trying to achieve this affect forever!

..I even started a thread on it a while back!

Ah good, I'm glad it's not just my eyes. If he did do it in Cinema, I would love to know how. It works so well, especially in that picture.

The haze effect IS post and Adrian was pretty close to how I achieved it.

1. Copy the layer

2. Adjust brightness and contrast, on the copied layer, to emphasize the light and dark areas of the image.

3. Set the layer to overlay.

4. Gaussian blur the layer you desired amont. I usually prefer to blur anywhere between 5 and twelve. Any less 5 and the blur is too concentrated and becomes a glow. Anymore than twelve the blur consumes the entire image and becomes too hazey IMO.

5. Adjust the layer opacity, usually at least 50% to reveal your underlying original layer.

6. (This is step is not always necessary but) sometimes I merge these two layers and again adjust the brightness and contrast levels to give the image a more dramatic contrast.

That should cover it, and BTW the color scheme was not my idea.

I love threads like these! ...the annoying thing is doing this for a movie, I'm sure afteraffects would make it pretty convenient though!

I agree Adrian guy, this process doesn't seem animation friendly but like you said I'm sure it can be done with an application such as After Effects.

3 robots to go. I'm just showing off the models right now. The completed scenes will consist of the robots working in the environment.

I love whiteish floor like yours (yeah I'm weird :P), it's very nice.. reminds me of Jango Fetts home on the water planet (SW: EPII)

You have excellent proportions on the robots! IMO, the tire does look like it could use some treads... but that's just my opinion = )
