View Full Version : Charactor: Lexi
lerpiedood 12-24-2002, 03:28 AM Hey all. Yes another female, hehehe. But a original one :). I am modeling a girl named Lexi who will the the main charactor in a 3d movie I'm working on. I have decided to model the head first. I modeled the ears first to get the hardest over first.
here are my drawings of the front and side view. I designed her from my imagination. I'm sure someone will probably want to model a head from these references, if so go ahead, just gimme credit for the drawings. Sorry the images for the drawings are kindof large, so I'll post the links instead of displaying the images here.

and here is the start of the model, the ear, as you can see.

I'd love your opinions on my work.
Because there is alot of images on this page, I'll post the latest image here.

Well, since she is a girl see will probably have earings, so I put a hole in her ear http://mysite.iptic.com/wurxware/ear2.jpg

Well, I'm thinking ahead. The hair will be polys, how should I animate it? Endomorphs or Bones?

Hmm, alot of views but no replies? You guys must not be too critical about ears, but luckily I can critisize myself. So after a few of my crits, I have tweaked the ear some more, I think I'm done with the ear.

Good start so far. Ears imho are one of the hardest parts of the human anatomy in 3d. So you've come along way lobe by lobe. But I'm curious, why did you start with the ear?

Yay! Finaly a question. I started with the ear because first of all, the ear is the hardest part of the face to model. People usually build their heads then attach ears, I wanted to build the head so I didn't have to attach the ear, and therefore the ear will flow better into the rest of the head. I'm also doing it first because I don't like to go with the normal flow everyone else does, to be different.
I was playing around a bit, having fun. And made this short animation of the ear morphing into an Elf ear. 40kb big, DivX compression

You've got all the contours in there, but the overall shape looks a little off to me. check out these pics I dug up off of google:

It looks to me like your ear is too narrow at the bottom. However, I don't know if you're going for a realistic ear, or a more stylized ear.

You're right, I shouldn't have the little dent seperating the lobe, I'll fix that.

Thanks, still trying to figure out how to texture her, and how to do the hair. Here's a wire so you can pull apart my mesh.

Here's a long awaited update, sorry, I've been learning how to make good textures and looking for some skin pictures, and I got some good references now, so I'll be texturing her today and the next few days. She can see now :) Tell me what you think?

shes got a really big bottom lip and a really small upper lip...

Haha! It looks the best that way, with a smaller lower lip it just doesn't look right, I tried it. As for the little crease I'll fix that later, just a prob with my alpha map or something.

Here's a lovely update for you, eyebrows still need more work, I'm contemplating painting eyebrows on texture. What do you think?
http://mysite.iptic.com/wurxware/lexihead9.jpg
lerpiedood! Nicely done. Looking very nice. The texturing is looking nice as well.
I think that the eyes are a little far apart though. Can you post a front view of this so we can check that? Could be just the camera angle on your last post though.

Hey bgDM the eyes are just slightly too far apart, but what's wrong is I made the outer sides of the head in too close, I gots to work a little bit on moving eyes in slightly and making head wider.
bgDM I havn't seen you around much in #Blenderchat, are you still going to do the lighting seminar?

And yes, once again...duh duh duh!!!!!! An update. I took your crits and moved eyes in a bit, it looks much better, I also fixed eyebrows, amazingly I sketched the brows without a wacom! Well I would really love to hear your thoughts on my work, crits and comments are always inspiring for the artist to keep working on the artwork.

Hey lerpiedood. I'm usually around #BlenderChat more during the day here, (Eastern Time Zone). I am still interested in doing the online lighting tute. Just need some time to get something together. I'll PM you and give you a time frame. Is that OK?
For your model, looking much better with the eye placement changed. Big improvement. The eye brows seem to be a little too much, IMO. (i.e. too dark and dense). Other than that, great texturing job.
