View Full Version : surface with 2 materials
benjerman 03-28-2006, 03:22 AM Hello. I am experiencing a problem texturing the cabin of a locomotive. The window borders are wood, the rest is metal. I have arranged a wood UV map with the wood faces from the entire (including other objects) as one map that will use a lambert material. There is a second map with all the metal parts from the entire train that will use a blinn. I have applied the blinn material to the cab with the metal map in theh colour channel.. looks fine. When i go to apply the lambert material to the individual window border faces, or the entire cab itself, it does not apply according to the uv map i have assigned to the colour channel of the lambert. it just colours the whole cab as if it were never mapped in the first place. I'm using Maya. any suggestions? Thanks, Luke

Hello sounds like you need to be sure to make your UV set for the wood is a seprate UV set.
You grab the UV's that are on the border with the metal UV's and use the cut UV's tool in the UV Texture Editor. Once you have cut the UV's along the shared border click on one of the
UV"s that are part of the wood and go to "Select" and scroll to Select Shell this should highlight only the wood UV's and "Covert Selction to UV's" now you can assigned your seperate shaders
You can do this in the UV Texture Editor.
I believe this should help if I understand your problem correctly.
