...Moving right along

Trying out Particle Instances. Is there a way to make the instanced Particle collide with each other? I tried selecting them > Make Collide gave this error:
Error: Particles can collide only with a NURBS surface or polygonal surface. Select the particles, Shift-select the surface, then select Particles > Make Collide.

What are the Instances if not Poly or NURBS? (particles i guess!)

in this case i used a Poly Cone.

Thanks!

Do a search for this. The short answer is that no, there's no inter-particle collision baked into maya. Instead, you'll have to instance radial fields to all of them. This will get the most basic collision down, but it won't look very good, and it won't be physically accurate to the instanced geometry.

If you want to do heavy-duty rigid body simulations with lots of instanced geometry, I would suggest you check out Nima, a physics plugin becoming available for Maya. Again, do a search, there's a very informative thread about it on this board. Currently it's Windows-only.
