* You have 25 , (count them 25 !) minutes to do your sketch.
IF you go beyond the assigned time limit , you have to post WHATEVER you have done after the time has expired, along with the FINAL drawing
Also, I will add a new voting category, called THE FASTEST DRAW
We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.
These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Here's my post, not sure if anybody will reconize the person, it's Stephen Root frm Office Space, one of my favorite movies about anger management.... I was working on my technique.. The whole time I kept saying to myself "block in the colors, block in the colors"
LOL... I'm a wierdo, I know... I've been told that before...
" Has anyone seen my stapler ? "
" I'm thinking about taking that new chick from Logistics. If things go right I might be showing her my O-face. You know: Oh. Oh."
"Samir (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0619651/): No one in this country can ever pronounce my name right. It's not that hard: Samir Na-gheen-an-a-jar. Nagheenanajar.
Michael Bolton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0379114/): Yeah, well at least your name isn't Michael Bolton.
Samir (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0619651/): You know there's nothing wrong with that name.
Michael Bolton (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0379114/): There was nothing wrong with it... until I was about 12 years old and that no-talent ass clown became famous and started winning Grammys."

Hey guys, I haven't had the time to post much recently but here's a quickie. I used a small black and white pic in the Newspaper as a bit of inspiration and it took me about 35mins (sorry I read the 25 as 35-whoops) in Painter with the Oil Pastel brushes.

Here is the sketch after 25 min:
And after 1 Hour:

Here is mine after 25 minutes. Stranded on a distant planet after the pilot crashed the astro ship, and the co-pilot is gonna smash his brains in with an intergalactic club. I don't particularly like the position of the guys because I can't make 'em any bigger than that. Maybe I'll fix this one up a little more...
Feel free to tell me what I could change to make it better.

the original anger management poster boy - The Hulk
not happy with it - the hulk deserves a much more dynamic pose, but it was fun to sketch
28mins :) i have to set a timer, looking at the clock i always go a couple minutes over!
Mastermind - i love those poses hahaha cracks me up.
+30 minutes later. couldnt leave it alone....

OK...still trying to loosen up...not so good.
Here it is after 25min (ps&wacom)
and after another 20min
All about practice, right?
Daw - bang on for no reference!
itsGuido - great texture - PS? Like what you did with the extra time.
iuvo - wish I could swing that kind of realism in 25min. Still great energy too.
My favorite has got to be Zeoyn though. Darn funny!
03-28-2006, 07:06 AM
isguido: looks a bit like Jimi Hendrix, don't you think so ? :)
daw - great choice of subject!

General overall comment....know when to leave it alone! In several cases, I like the original sketches before some of you went back and added more to them.
iuvo - I see you are new..welcome - really nice and strong! good job
mastermind - that's almost photographic, very good! I love the movement of the dirt cloud!!
Freakwncy - I knew who it was immediately - love the reference and like the looseness of this one too.
Tonik - he's scary! good work!
GSmiley - I like the look of that piece, but don't know that I would have understood it without your explanation.
zeoyn - I wasn't talking about you in my comment above, your more detailed piece is very nice, me likey! :)
itsGuido - sorry, I think the first piece was stronger, when I saw it, I went, "WOW!" - but the second one with the extra black lost the impact for me somehow...but still, "WOW!" is a good thing!
daw - YAY! I love it, what a poster child for anger management! :applause:
tservo - while the extra time in your case didn't "hurt" it...I'm not sure it really made it much stronger - nice piece, I like it.
Vitala -whoa! I like it, but I think its gonna give me bad dreams tonight.
Cyanid - really strong piece - simple and elegant!
Gord - sorry again...I think the first one was stronger. I looked at it a long time before moving on and then went back and forth to decide, but yup, I think it works better for the theme. Nice work on both , tho.Maybe its just that red works better than black in regard to anger..at least in my opinion.
Good work folks! Keep it up!

Love how the anger and bad mood pop ups from this thread, keep sketchin people!
25" was quite enaugh, but maybe too much for a sketch, and not enaugh for a speedpaint.
I think I'll work on that one, lovely bad boy :D
(Yes I know, I'm late...)
tizianoadmirer - hendrix? haha na i cant see it :)
Robin - you reckoN?! I'm really loving the new version, i think its really the anatomy im happy with, been doin some reading and practise lately and was stoked to pull that from my head.
Cheers for the comments each dsg Robin! it must be the first time ive thanked u

Lost track of time on this one a bit, so it's probably more like 40 mins. Photoshop.
03-29-2006, 03:05 PM
Guido- don't get me wrong, the second one is really strong too...but in my opinion, the first one read "anger" but the second one reads more to me as "anguish" or "pain" I do love the extra anatomy and teeth in the second one too! Both versions are really good. I think it might just be me, but when there was more red - I get "anger" - by adding black, it changed my interpretation. But that's the thing about art - its really personal. Different people see different things in your work...sometimes things you don't see yourself. You are a really strong artist and the work you are doing here is going to make you even stronger! Keep up the excellent work - and hopefully I can meet you next year when I visit NZ!
