StarCraft: Ghost Goes To Heaven?

StarCraft: Ghost has hit yet another crossroad, as franchise creator and project overseer Blizzard has announced that it "will indefinitely postpone production" on the game as the company shifts its focus to new next-gen systems. The good news is that Blizzard hasn't yet given up the Ghost -- the company explains in its announcement that it is evaluating the potential of StarCraft: Ghost as a next-gen title, and indicates that if the game goes that route, it will utilize the additional console power for a more impressive game than was originally conceived. The bad news, of course, is that this leaves little chance of seeing the current-gen StarCraft: Ghost version continued to release, and it promises an even longer (or eternal, if worse comes to worst) wait for StarCraft fans.

I was kinda hoping that Blizzard wouldn't do this. The game looked pretty promising to me, the characters looked cool, but every one of their games have been like this. Definately should have seen that one comin...

Now we will all have to wait for the next gen title and then when it comes down to release they will post-pone for the new next gen systems and so on and so on...

Just release it for the PC!

Oh well, Blizzard's games are always few and far-between, and all are major hits. If they are making such a move, I guess they can - they must have made billion$ of income with WoW, so they're holding out to release this in the maximum number of platforms possible!

I thought this game's kinda limited multiplayer wise, and the single player's kinda mix of AvP and Hitman.

I'd rather play next gen Starcraft RTS than this, Protoss Carrier with Interceptors swarming around in full 3D *drool*. They made Warcraft 1, 2 and 3, why not make Starcraft 2 ffs. They should know this game has just as big of a following as Warcraft.

...am i the only one who remembers that this was originallyin development for the N64? yeah, remember that nintendo console from two generations ago? (if you count the 360 as the start of the new generation...)
then they moved it to a 'next-gen' game when the xbox and ps2 and gamecube came out, and now they're doing it again. this game is never coming out, my gosh. they've pissed off the only people who even remotely know about it...i just don't see this coming to fruition.
now if you'll excuse me i have to go play WoW :P

Huh? I've been following this game since it was first announced, for the XBOX/PS2 . . Never had they intended it for the n64.. eww That would mean it was supposed to come out for the ps1 as well, which it was never slated for. One game would not be pushed through 2 generations of consoles.

There IS however a Starcraft game for the n64, perhaps that is what you are thinking about?

Anyways, I do not think they will cancel the game for sure, as per they have spent so much time on cinematics, the sheer loss of money and time on those would prevent them from cancelling all together. Imo at least.

Blizzard originally licensed it to another company to develop. Later they didn't like the way it was going, so they grabbed it back and tried to finish it. They didn't like what they were working with, so they scrapped the existing code and started fresh. Now it appears they've realized there's no point in releasing a non-XB360/PS3 title, so they're probably gonna focus on a new version that will play to both new-system's strengths. The most important being: Making good use of the multiple processors.

I am disapointed, but not surprised by this annoncement. I hope they get it looking good for whatever system its going to be comeing out for. I am always interested to see where their game design takes them as I love there games.

after playing it last E3 I am not surprised...I am really looking forward to the game, but at the time I played it there was a signifigant amount of polish required...

Blizzard is about quality not quantity, so this doesn't surprise me. I would be more interested in a starcraft 2 though. That would be so kick ass man.

OMG YES.
I would way rather play a RTS Starcraft, when I first heard this was coming out I was all excited but excitment turned to dissapointment when I found out what it was going to be.

Sad to hear about it being pushed even further... but Blizzard is well known for long LONG pauses in-between releases.

I'll be happy to hear they are scraping this project if there was some news that StarCraft 2 is being developed!

Well. Blizzard won't release a game that doesn't work - and obviously, Ghost didn't work yet. So I guess that's a good thing. Ghost started to look better, but it was still miles away from what I'd expect from Blizzard. And it actually looked more and more like a Multiplayergame. Guess it'd make more sense to port it over to Next Gen at this time.

World of StarCraft anyone? Maybe Unreal Tournament meets StarCraft. Now that I could get into.

To me it looks a little bit like C&C renegade. After playing that... well, lets hope ghost will be like what world of warcraft is compared to warcraft 3 (when compared to the original starcraft and broodwar).

What killed the development of the game thus far is pretty much feature bloat. One of my buddies worked on the game and the stories he told me were pretty revealing.

They should just make a Battlefield 2 clone set in the Star Craft universe, with ressources to get a hold of and stuff:p

Doooood. Don't be putting any more ideas in their heads, or the game will surely be doomed for all eternity.

... Hello ....
Have any of you played Ground Control? ... well, i'm imagining Starcraft 2 with that kind of graphics :) .... I bet they can do even better than that ....
There will be a Starcraft 2... i'm 100% sure of that... the only problem is, when? :) I think they're afraid :) .... they have to at least match the impact Starcraft had at it's time, otherwise they'll ruin the franchise and they'll have there first failure in a looong time :) ... and having that kind of impact it won't be easy at all.
Concerning the Ghost matter, all i can say is that as long as there is no PC version announced, i'd like to be able to ignore this game :) ...

Ground Control? stuff that, I was thinkin more along the line of the upcoming RoN: Rise of Legend, that is one beautiful looking RTS. If they gonna make MMO Starcraft, they might wanna take a look at RF Online, that could be the first futuristic MMO with mechs and stuff.

starcraft is too popular among pro gaming to be easily ported to 3D, i think they want to hold back until they have a solid good idea for the frenchise, before annoucing it.
