View Full Version : Image-based 3D models
Pancho 03-27-2006, 07:25 AM I already posted it in the modeling section, but so far I didn't get a hint which took me any further. I'm looking for programs (state-of-the-art) which generate a 3D mesh from an image sequence (Turntable shooting). Photomodeler and Image Modeler aren't the ones I'm looking for, as they need the user to draw lines or points on them. Organic modeling is more or less impossible. The process should happen automaticly and I'd be glad not draw any masks, etc. There are so many thesis papers out there showing some pretty amazing results for this kind of low-end 3D scanner and for organic models it might be a great background model which defines the dimensions of the object or works simply on its own.
Anyone a guess, married to somebody who wrote this code, or knows something he/she could share?
Any hint is appreciated.
Thanks

Is there really no one using this kind of technique to create 3D models? I'd love to get some feedback from a person who did something similar before and point out the cons and pros of this method. Anybody? Come on, guys!

Well, if you want automatically generated heads based on images, then FaceGen from Singular Inversions is a really good app, but it is only for creating head models though (it uses up to 10-15 minutes evaluating the photos).

Thanks for the link. Looks interesting, but isn't really a software which generates a mesh, but tries to match an existing mesh to an image. Very usefull for crowds with defined faces.
