hi,

i desperately need basic insight information about a vfx shot in 'matrix reloaded'.

what technique(s) was/were used to create the truck explosion sequence, especially the fire&smoke effect?

i presume they used particles with some sort of volumetric effect, like afterburn, pyrocluster, whatever...

if anyone has real knowledge about that and could tell me only the basic facts, i'd really appreciate that. this is for my university paper. among other things i wanna compare different techniques and methods to create fire and smoke effects.

thanks in advance!

It was done by Sony Imageworks and I believe they told us that the whole shot took 12 months to do. It was the first shot they started on and the last shot they finished. All the explosions and stuff are custom written with some maya and houdini thrown in there. Read the cinefex article on it. It explains some, but you can only go into it so much without lots of math and programming.
