Title: La Grande Tour
Name: Maxime Desmettre
Country: Canada
Software: Photoshop

Adventurer approaching the High Tower.
The pic has been first painted B&W and colored afterwards. I kept layers separated for the Sky, the Tower and Trees to allow easier and quicker color work and atmosphere.

Very nice work. No crit except for the clouds which look very sketchy unlike the rest of the image.

Ya looks good cept clouds look weird. Um, I like the pastel color pallet and the character reminds me of that FF character!

Beautiful painting, love the mood and lighting. My only crit is that initially the adventurer doesn't read that easily. It took me a couple of looks to figure out that it was a mounted rider.

I understand your critic LoTekk, and your absolutely right... I'llbe more precise in my future work (at least i'll try).

Thx everybody for your comments, i didn't expected that interest about the pic : P

Great work, I would agree with phil on the clouds, they look almost like jet trails. Also maybe play with the levels in PS to get a bit more contrast between your colors. I feel like your shadow areas are too light. But thats just my personal preference. I love the lighting its amazing!

Very nice image, great work with the mood. Makes me wonder which one is safer, the forest or the desert :)

Very nice use of light!

The foreground silhouettes and the foliage look like an homage to the fantasy artist, Rodney Matthews. I used to love looking through some of his books( published by paper tiger).

Oops, I didn't mean to say the figure was poorly done. The figure on its own reads well, but I think the fact that its silhouette merges with the roots and branches on the right makes it so that it doesn't stand out as well. The silhouette of the rider, as well, is on exactly the same line as that root, so it blends even more. A bit more separation would help, I think.

But again, I think this is a gorgeous piece all round. :)

The lighting and mood are nicely done, would like to see the main character in a more clearly defined pose though...
