I think that is the book that comes with maya. Or rather came with maya. From what I remember it was good for getting your head around the basics but did not provide enough info to get into the really powerful things that can be done.

If it is the one that comes with maya, then it is a reference book, not as much of a tutorial/teaching one.

Sorry for not being clear enoght...
I meant this book:
http://www.digitalriver.com/dr/v2/ec_MAIN.Entry10?V1=419781&PN=1&SP=10023&xid=41107&DSP=&CUR=840&PGRP=0&CACHE_ID=0
It's the latest one from the Learning... series, I own most of the other ones from this series and unfortunately some of them are just a collection of the tutorials that they ahd previously available online for free... The reason I was asking is because I am looking to get more into Hypershade, and texturing and UV unwrapping for low poly modelling...

I would skip on that book. Doesn't look like any info that isn't already in the online docs. However I reccomend this instead: http://www.digitalriver.com/dr/v2/ec_MAIN.Entry10?V1=385105&PN=1&SP=10023&xid=41107&DSP=&CUR=840&PGRP=0&CACHE_ID=0 10 bucks cheaper and excellent info.

It looks like he wants a learning maya rendering book. I was at the advanced shader class that tom kluskens did at siggraph in 99(I think that is what this dvd is about, if not then please correct me). Although it was nice, it is really for the much more advanced person who allready has some technical knowledge about maya shaders networks. The dvd really should be called "how to make really weird shaders that may or may not be usefull". The class was presented like "here are some really strange shader networks that I have gathered from different people and here is how they go together".

Haven't seen the DVD yet. Thanks for the heads up. The CD though has some really nice shaders on it. The attenuated Dmap shadows just rock, and that same network can be plugged into other attributes of lights for some very nice effects. For instance I use it to control warm and cool regions of light interactively as well as shadow color. Another nice one is the expression based shader that shades based on surface curvature, not facing ratio, but actual curvature. Cool stuff to be had for sure.
