View Full Version : Lumpy - Animation Series
omega3d 03-26-2006, 02:09 AM Hey there,
My name is Jonathan Reyes. My friend Russell (russo88) and I came up with this idea for a series... We are going to be doing some animation tests for practice. Basically, it is portfolio building. We are in need of ideas.
The type of shots we are looking for are similar to that of the Incredibles (When the characters are in a reflection narration period). This can be seen at the beginning of the movie with the interivews... When Mr. Incredible is talking to a reporter.
We will post updates to keep you informed.
Thanks peeps!
Jon

Our first idea for this animation scene is a really muscular dude talking about somewhat feminine things while cooking on the grill in his back yard. Do you have any dialogue sugguestions?

I will try to drop my 2 cents in here and there.
What do you have so far ... anything.
What do you mean by " muscular dude talking about somewhat feminine things "
Like wearing a bra under his shirt :curious:
help me out here.. need more info if possible.

Well, we have a model, and we are going to stick him in different scenes. I believe we decided to have "girly" clothes. Here is a show of the model... I was thinking along the lines of a hair-net and a apron with "loverboy" or something on it. Then he would be talking about like, race cars & gyms... Or the opposite... But this one will be when he is cooking.

"Well my favorite hobby is cooking, you see moma always taught how to cook right when I was a little kid."
"So you like cooking?"
"Oh I love it. It is all I do!"
"Do you ever excersie? I mean you have muscles and all that..."
"Nah, I get this from cooking!"
"How can you get that from cooking?"
"Well you see sometimes, when I need to cook a lot of stuff at the same time, I need to cary a lot of heavy stuff. Placing something heavy in a top area, getting a lot of heavy plates from one place to the other. It is good excersise and at the same time I am doing what I love the most."
"...Cooking."
Just something I came up with right now while writing the post...little idea of what the dialogue could go through. If you like it let me know, or if you dont let me knwo what you dont like about it. I kind of like the idea with what you are going with here. Sounds interesting, I imagine you want to go comedy wise correct?
Cheers,
Jose

Comedy would definately be a major part of these mini projects... I like the dialogue start. We will be looking for exagerated emotions. how about you BOY1DA, do you have any inputs on dialogue?

What just hit me when I was talking to Jose, we should do JibJab stuff. http://jibjab.com/... Great political cartoons.

Speaking of which we can also use it as a community parody. Make fun of the community, critiquing it.
I was also thinking of adding the following to the dialogue I posted, something like this:
"...Cooking. *Ahem* Do you like cleaning by any chance? Or perhaps pee sitting down?"
"Ah...sometimes. Why is that wrong?"
"Well it is kinda...you know."
"Normal?"
"Gay!"
"Gay? I am not gay...Why do you think I am gay?"
"I dont know...something told me you were gay..."
"What if I am? You are going to kill me? Or refuse me? I mean...just hypothetically of course."
"Probably."
Something like that...I hope you guys understand what I am trying to say.
(I am not saying that those out there that help their wives with the cooking or cleaning are gay, this is just a comedy kind of stuff. Women are the ones that "love" that tho, men just help them with it.)

The more I think about it, I think the way we want to go is more like the first dialogue you stated. Maybe some more references to childhood, or the beauty of things. I don't know.. lol.

ya. im like'n that first one. maybe we should give him a switch personality. have him suddenly snap between a manly personality and a feminine one.

Have you guys seen the Ask A Ninja (http://www.askaninja.com) podcast? It has a similar set-up to what you're doing shot-wise and I really like the way it's edited. You might want to consider doing something similar.

I think that would be a great way to go, thanks for that information! What do you guys think...

Sorry Jon, I have no ideas at the moment...
I'm not that good at writing , at least funny stuff even though I really would like to
think of something kool. I want to start my own cartoony style animation some day.
But I just can't come up with any funny ideas. so I have to work my way up to
it by just observing funny things in life.
But I'm still watching this thread.

Hey Omega, nice to see you starting your own project :)
It sounds like fun, I always enjoyed the little interviews at the start of the Incredibiles but I think you should expand this a little more. You should also try and get a look at Aardman's Creature Comforts (http://www.creaturecomforts.tv/). They interview general members of the public about anything and then put an animation over the top with animals replacing the people. It can be quite funny.
To get a good style of humor I think you will need to have more than one person in the animation being interviewed. Could be a man and wife and a little kid going mental in the background. Or it could be a group of guys all looking really manly but acting very feminine.
I think one of the key things is to definitly have extras, kids or other people that don't say anything but work with the humor. Creature Comforts is a great exaple of this and definitly worth a look.
I will try and think of a good storyline to go with this, I have a few ideas that might work. I think you should start off with a short animation to begin with and work from there.
Good Luck!
