hi, this is just a texture test, but let me know what you guys think of the details on the face, also let me know if she looks too plastic or needs softening up, i havent created the specular map i just threw the same texture on that channel but somethin seems a bit off, but it could be me, its not too fair cause its only a front view, but ill upload a front and side view later tonight. its also just the defaul 3dmax light setup, i havet set lights in max so it has hard shadows, but i think that helps with figuring out if the topology is right. thanks in advance for any c&c's

I think it needs bump and Im unsure as to what detail u speak of. I like her cheeks and forehead keep it up

It look like its going to the right direction. Like Jules said bump map will make it more realistic. I think it looks like a plastic because you don’t use SSS and as a result the shadows and like aren’t scattering in the way the human skin react . waiting for updates.

SSS stands for Subsurface Scattering. :) It is a phenomenon in CG that can create the translucent properties of certain objects, such as milk, Jade, and especially Human Skin, and have them react very realistically. If you notice on your skin in certain lighting conditions, your ears with glow from behind. And your skin, when it self-shadows has a softening effect.

Anyone, back me up if I am incorrect on this.

For a tutorial this should be a start for you to use SSS: http://67.15.36.49/team/Tutorials/human_skin/human_skin.asp

The scanline renderer isnt supporting SSS as far as I know. Is there any 3d package that does?

I can say for sure that SSS is for mental ray, havent heard of it being used in any other renderer. However SSS is not the only way of getting translucency (though it's probably the best), but if you arent using Maya i cant be much help to you, sorry.

i think in the movie incredibles used sss. so probably, renderman has sss too. and lightwave, i think, has faking translucency and stuff(which work like that of sss in mental ray[correct me if i'm wrong]).

nice model,by d way, just add her bump map and use sss. that is sure will make her more realistic.

edit: i can't find the tutorial regarding the faking translucency stuff on the net.

This seems to be a great model, well textured.

Just ome remark from me : I think that ears are a bit to flat to be credible..
Keep on it's a good start.
