View Full Version : Sebastion the Scientist!
Cabot 12-22-2002, 09:29 PM Sebastion the Scientist. I'm not much of a 2D artist, I am a doodler. I just got home from college for Xmas break. I was looking through one of my history notebooks and noticed that I doodle the same person every day :) I scanned in one of my doodles and decided to 3d model it (or attempt to). A day later, I found myself with Sebastion the Scientist! I am not really sure where to go from here, which is why I am posting, to get some feedback, and perhaps some new ideas! I hope you all enjoy him!

his head is really disturbing. Is it supposed to be his brain sticking out or something. other than the head looks pretty good

something about that arm completely filling up the sleeve, then shrinking down to the wrist that doesnt look right. try and slowly change size of the arm, instead of just abruptly changing sizes. also, i could barely notice the specs on your scientist. if you changed them to a brighter color, or added a spec highlight to them, it would help the character alot. imo :D

i like the head personallly but the arms do look wierd
might wanna make the shirt a seperate object from the body

Ok, thank you for your comments. His head is exactly how I had envisioned it. He is more of a living toon than a real human. I wanted it to be obvious that he is a brainiac, so yes, he is supposed to have that huge brainy looking noggin :)
I shrunk the forearms as was suggested and tweaked the arms of the coat a bit.
One question, what benefit will making the coat a separate object have? Will it help when animating him? *as there is no body under the coat...just a head, hands and feet sticking out of it.
What do you folks think of the glasses now? Thanks for the replies!

MUCH better. the arms are perfect now. the only thing i see now is his feet. give them a little more detail. i know, your going for simplicity, but they need just a tad more definition. the glasses look fine now. good job!
PS: if you plan on animating him, i would suggest making the cloth a seperate piece, that way you could make it move like cloth. the only thing you would have to do is put an object underneath the cloth, making the basic shape of your character (shoudln't be hard, since he is simple), and then make that a rigid body, then make the cloth a soft body, and add springs to it. then all you have to do is weight the soft body and youve got a moving coat that collides with an object under the cloth, acting as his body. email me if you need some help with it :)

Small steps my friend, small steps :)
Thank you soo much Slice! I will definitely be emailing you. I haven't ever attempted anything such as that. I really appreciate the offer!
I am working on creating some new feet now. I also lowered his ears a bit.

cool, i was wondering if you were going to put the ear pieces for teh glasses to go to his ears. lowering them would aid in that process im sure. im leaving town for xmas break, but i will be back on the 5th, and then i ca nhelp you out. is that cool?

I am leaving for Florida on the 4th :) From the 4th to the 11th. But after that will be fine! I appreciate the help!!
here is the latest pic. I did some work on the lab coat, and I lowered the ears. Perhaps tomorrow I'll try adding the ear piece to the glasses...we'll see how that looks. If I am going to do that, I need to increase the size of the glasses so that the edge of the frame sticks out past the sides of the head.
I made some new feet for the little guy as well. I am still not happy with them. I'm just not sure where to go with that, or how to approach it I guess! C&C welcomed!! Thank you all!

oooooohh... those are his feet :p
i thought he was an amputee :)
and if you plan on animating him the coat should prolly be seperate otherwise weighting will be very hard
his arm would prolly crash through his shirt whenever you bend it forward
