View Full Version : Camera Problems!
piajartist 12-22-2002, 09:06 PM Hi,
I am having problems with my camera view. Every time i move or rotate my camera angle in the perspective viewport, the model is warped to the angle, like it is following the camera, and not staying stationary. The picture below gives you an idea about how much it is warping the model. If anyone knows what the solution is, PLEASE tell me, because this is extremely frustrating!

here!
Try and zoom out a bit(hit "z")...Maybe thats why your model looks like its "warping"

tried that before, just adds to it. It only does sometimes, its really weird. To zoom in press Z, then with the middle mouse button click and hold, otherwise press S and click the middle mouse button(wheel) and move the mouse.

hi
press R to reset your camera and take care when u use the zoom tool in vamera view cos u change the camera FOV resulting in distortion..
if u want to go near or away from the object use the navigation tool (with middle mouse button for dolly) or the dolly tool (p)
if it still doesn't work with the reset option create a new camera and go from there..
hope this helps a bit

I found the main problem was the size, when I work with something smaller it has no trouble rotating, but when working with something larger, especially with one limb longer than the rest of the model, it seems to off-center the angle, which causes this warp, the other ways of zooming and navigation should work.

Do not ever zoom in the camera view port.
The zooming in the camera view in XSI will change the camera's FOV. This is why your object apears to be distorted. The FOV is changing.
Hit R will reset the camera to default settings. That will get you back to normal.
If you need to get close to an object or just basic camera manipulation use the s key
Holding down the s key will enable you mouse to do 3 things.
Left Mouse Button - PAN
Middle Mouse Button - Dolly (This is what you want instead of zoom)
Right Mouse Button - Orbit
You can select the object and hit the f key to frame the selected object in the view port. Then when using the S key it will be based on that objects position.
You can even select a single face or faces, points, edges and hit the f key and the view port will frame to just that selection.
I suggest you re-read the section of the manual called Viewing your Work in the Fundamentals section.
Everything will be answered there.
