I'm trying to generate a Normal Map using Surface Sampler in Maya 7. The problem is when I bake from my high poly to low poly model it samples both models and combines them for my normal map. The result is hard edges of my low poly model mixed with all the detail of the high. Has anyone else encountered this? I've tried various envolope settings but nothing seems to work. The only thing that seems to make a difference is settin map space from tangent to world (it only samples the high poly model but generates the wrong kind of normal map so that doesn't realy help). Any help would be greatly appreciated. -thanks

Make sure BOTH the source and low-poly target mesh has the normals smoothed. I get the results you describe if the target has hard poly edges.

Thanks Zugok, I actualy figured it out at about 2am(after banging my head for a few hours) and that was exactly it, the smoothing on the low poly. I'm currently making the transition from Max's Shtools to Maya surface sampler so there has been a few stumbling blocks. Now for the AO mapping...
