hello guys i am just bored and want to learn something cool, i want to have some particles move over a surface and fallow a certain target on that surface, let's say like some ants running on a surface fallowing some rolling cookie heh :P. anyone has an idea on how to achive this using particle flow in 3dsmax?

Well about yes.
Teling you now haven't used max for some time but....
Well you will need
particle source
deflector
ant model
cookie model
after that in particle source you will need colision event and find or folow target it was ;)
Put it all together instance ant model as particles chose cookie as target and let it run ;)
Well that is basic.
Problems you will run in to:
Colisions
bounce from deflector
position where your ants are looking at
animation of ant legs moving
......
.....
.......
and much much more.

recomendet video tutorials to watch to make it look good:

Chris Thomas posted a nice tutorial for a similar setup here : http://www.christopher-thomas.net/pages/free_tutorials/tut_particle_flow_spiders/ct_tut_particle_flow_spiders.htm

Cheers!
