View Full Version : Display transparency map in work area
jgibz 03-24-2006, 02:28 PM Hi everyone,
Is it possible to display the effects of a transparency map applied to a model in the work area? I'm working on a game character and I dont want to have to render just to see what my map is doing.
Thanks for any help

Go to the Hardware Texturing section of your material node and for the Texture Channel, choose Combined Texture.
Also, if you default drop a file texture with a built in alpha, over your material, the alpha transparency is assigned and displayed automatically.
Another way to display the transparency is by choosing High Quality Rendering from the Shading Menu of your viewport.

Thanks for the info Emil3d, but I'm still having some problems with this. I tried the first method and this is what I got.

As for the second method, right now I'm just using jpeg files, what kind of files are commonly used for game textures?
And my graphics card doesnt support the third method :(.
Does anyone has any suggestions on why the above is happening?
Thanks again

I would put the video card and/or its driver as a suspect #1 for this display problem and the texture as a suspect # 2. JPG should be Ok for a game platform but in Maya JPGs are not the best performers; you may try TGA which is also widely supported game texture format.
Have in mind that these are only display problems limited to Mlaya and won't show when exported.
