How do you set up your mapping so that your unwrap only uses half the face, but it applies it to both sides. Here is a small example of what I'm talkin about (from GTA3)...

In Maya all you would do to mirror any part of the body (lets take the head for example) is to select the faces in the uv texture editor for one side of the face, and select flip uvs -> horizontal. They'll flip and you can then easily position them so that they'll overlap the other side's uvs. Now when one side of the face is drawn, the other side will be drawn too!

This can be applied to all the different pieces, such as arms, legs and torso or whatever else. But you have to be careful that your texture doesn't look too symmetrical or mirrored.

Be careful flipping uvs over text, as this will cause text to flow backwards. You can get around this with clever use of face flipping (you might see some tiny seams, but chances are you could leave the faces with text on them going the right direction).

UVMapping is really an art in itself, and requires both patience and problem-solving skills to perfect a character leaving no visible seams. Practice practice practice practice practice....

Hope this helps. :arteest:
