View Full Version : Lets get independant from motionbuilder with setup machine
v-empire 03-24-2006, 11:26 AM Hi
there is an automated rigging tool for maya, lightwave and animationmaster called " the setup machine 2". It does a perfect job and speeds up rigging extremely.
We (Electrofilm / Munich) used it in our Maya / Lightwave pipeline all the time. We did a whole miniseries with it.
Its cheap (99$) and would cure cinema4ds biggest drawbacks concerning character animation.
Have a look at http://www.anzovin.com/TSM2Maya/.
And leave an email for raf@anzovin.com if you would be interested in getting that for cinema.
If enough people contact them, maybe they´ll port it to cinema4d.
I think they have no idea how big the cinema4d community already is, and how much interest in proper rigging exists
Regards
Holger

We have, indeed, recieved several emails asking about a Setup Machine for Cinema4d. This isn't something we'd been thinking about at all, but if you guys can demonstrate enough of an interest in it then it's certainly possible.
However, since we're currently working on TSM2.5 for Maya and the Face Machine for Maya, we don't have a lot of bandwidth in our internal programming team to take on another project, much less so one that's for a program we have no familiarity with. So we might be interested in working with an outside programmer who is already familiar with C4D and from the C4D community.

He he, i was thinking the exact same thing.
Although Face Machine sounds interesting. I wonder what the features are.

I think if cactus dan could make this work with his tools we have a HUGE HUGE winner and Maxon should just put it into c4d, no need to make a set of animation tools just use these.

Agreed, Cactus would be the man to talk to!
Who do we talk to about viewport speed on OSX though?
I'm starting a Maya course on Monday and seeing the Setup Machine in action has got me very, very excited. Providing Autodesk dont scrap Maya Complete, you guys will be getting some money from me in the near future!

Hi,
so far only reading this fanatstic forum, it is time to say "Hello" to everybody and ask my first question:
After I made my rig setup with the machine, shouldn't it be possible to export as .fbx and import into C4D without loosing the rig??
Cheers

Raf how have you been? Have not talked to you since the old AM days. Any way Dan is on this form alot and the email I have for him is cactusdanl@earthlink.net Not sure if thats still good or not but it should be.
You can also see this thread http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=312338 its shows Dans joint system and there is a link to his web site and you can get intouch with him from there.
Lets hope this works.
DAN! YOU HERE WHAT DO YOU THINK! Looks like a good match up to me.

Well, if anyone has actually used Dan's tools they know they are already very easy to use. One click limb and finger set ups. Can't get much easier than than.
And once you've made a rig, you can resize the bones (soon to be Joints, perhaps) to fit other characters.
Not saying the Setup Machine wouldn't be cool (I'v downloaded just about every movie on it you have posted!), but viewport speed, timeline, etc. also need some work, so it still wouldn't be "the new Motionbuilder."
Just my opinion...

Well shure it doesn´t deliver the same potential like motionbuilder.
But if you need an effective solution to get a bunch of freelancers to work on a comon base,
and the job doesn´t allow to buy a bunch of motionbuilder pros for 3000-4000$ each, then its a very cool solution, with a steep "one day" learning curve.
As mentioned before, its production proof.
Cheers

Well, the viewport speed is a lot quicker on my Intel iMac than my G4 tower, but that had a very crappy card in it.
On the G4, I could barely get the MOCCA Mime to move, now it seems realtime even with HyperNURBS turned on, so that's a big improvement for me.
Per Anders has a nice timeline plugin out. I haven't used it yet, but looks good.
BTW There does seem to be little improvemets in the UB version of Cinema, so I recommend updating to that even if you're not on an IntelMac.

That does sound very promising! As soon as the new Intel PowerBook comes out I will jump on board the UB highway! Adobe should be up to speed by then so it will be worth it!
Like it has been mentioned earlier, it will take a lot more then The Setup Machine to make C4D match MotionBuilder - but having said that, Motion Builder doesnt AutoWeight, offer stretching bones or do that lovely "bendy bones" deal that The Setup Machine does.
The real thing with MB7 is the non-linear editing, additive animation, nice dope sheet, useful f-curves and mo cap heaven. The catch is that you still have to spend time boning and weighting your characters in C4D which is no walk in the park (for me anyway!).
Hmmmm, perhaps The Setup Machine and MotionBuilder would make a pretty awesome double act! Bone and Autoweight in C4D using TSM2, animate in MB7, export and finesse using stretchiness and bendy options in C4D / TSM2, render!

Hey Raf, I am another former Setup Machine user from my old AM days! I would love to see it inside of C4D , and I am sure you would sell a ton at the price that you offer it at, since there is a total void for this type of tool in the C4d toolset.
Hope that you and Dan can hookup, that would be a great collaboration
