View Full Version : vertex normal edit?
wachstum 03-24-2006, 11:18 AM Greetings,
I was just wondering wether cinema offers vertex normal editing?
The reference manual doesn't yield any information on this, so I guess
this function is not implemented yet, is it?
Thanks,
Martin

In general the normal is calculated from the surrounding surfaces, only when importing for example OBJ files with normal information an additional normal tag is added that sets the normal directly. Another option is a shader in the normal channel or a plugin that creates an own normal tag.

For the time being, the plugin solution seems to be suitable. I appreciate
the quick response.

I wanted to dig into this and see if there was any movement to see Maxon having C4D support vertex normals for smoothing rather than the antiquated polygon smoothing that LW/modo/Max still still are using.
The biggest problem when losing this information is dealing with improper shading errors do to the difference in smoothing assumptions.
