CGTalk - query 3d texture

does someone know how to query a 3d texture's color/alpha at a point in worldspace? i had a look at the colorAtPoint-command but i think that's only for u/v...

I dont think it can be done in MEL, but the MRenderUtil's sampleShadingNetwork function might help. (Maya API)
