View Full Version : How to achieve photorealism in maya/MR

Iīm very interested in the cg,especially in photorealism, but as much as i try to achieve a convincing appearance of my scene i just couldīt get.
I have read and seen some instructional videos like, gnomon mental ray series ,but i just canīt get those images that look soo real.
Although i know itīs not an easy job,i was wondering if some here could please recommend me some links, or books, videos, tutorials, anything that is relevant to photorealism ,especially in architecture , please any help will be very appreciated!!

Learning how to control the materials will only only get you so far. You really need to gain a deep understanding of lighting to get what you are after, that and a lot of practice, trail and error. There is only so much reading the book and watching the DVD's will get you. In the end it is mainly the experience that will have you acheive great results. That being said there are some great threads in this forum to get you started in the right direction. Check out his thread

I have to agree with cgtriguy there is only so far Shaders and rendering techniques can take you.
Try using some real world techniques, besides with FG and GI you can practically
replicate any real lighting rigs. Try some of this books.

We should start a contest thread to render those pictures on the books. Or pick a interior book and render the cover or a picture inside contest. That might be fun.
