Hey ppls....i keep starting new projects without finishing ones...usually coz i get stuck. This model is of philipa, a girl that sometimes stays here at our hosue coz she works pretty close by and lives pretty far away.

It definately needs alot of tweaking....probably could use a few less polys to smooth it out a bit.

Any comments and crits are welcome.

Looks like you did a good research for topology. Exept the corners of the mouth...

But your reference image was taken from a bit too close I think. You might get a lot of perspective distortion...

thanks for the comments ppl.....the side of the model isn't done so i'll work on it and show u later.

How far away do u think is the optimal distance for taking ref shots ?

I had a bit of time to work on this yesterday, here's a quick animation (http://www.carlwdesign.com/misc/lipa/anim_1.mov)

Your reference photo is waaay to close up. Super distorted if you were to use it in an orthographic view which it looks like you did. You wanna take a pic from as far back as you can and still see the details. Even then youll get a little distortion which you would have to compensate for in the modeling. Good luck!

thanks for the advice man, i'm fairly happy with the head now....i've given it a rest and started on the body.

the front side of the head seems too flat, maybe you must work more with a side view too. I agree with hazzadus, you need to take a bettr photo with a longer focal lenght.

ok thanks for all the advice ppl....i've played around with the flatness of the head a little bit...but i've started to get away from the reference....i'm not too worried about getting it accurate any more. (next time i'll take the ref pics from a better distance).

Here's a quick turntable of the body so far.
