Two things. In Ubuntu Breezy, Blender opens fullscreen on top of the Gnome panels and that Alt + RMB is linked to Gnome's desktop window/workspace options menu. I am sure that you can remap it easily enough and Ctrl + Alt + left and right arrows can move between your open workspaces anyway. I don't worry too much about it. I only use that computer to render. It renders faster in Linux with an AMD Athlon 1.2 than in Windows with a Pentium 4 1.8. Go figure.

The last time I used Blender under Linux, I used Blender 2.37b with Debian Sid (Kanotix). It was one of the easiest installations I ever experienced with Linux. On the same computer (dual boot Debian and Windows XP, AMD Athon XP and nVidia FX5500) Blender definitely seemed "zippier" and faster. I didn't do alot of rendering since I mostly use Blender for the Game Engine. I've since stopped using Linux for 3D, not because of any problems with Blender, but because most of my other game dev apps are Windows and it's easier to just run windows than dual boot. BTW, I use Linux -exclusively- on my internet machine.

Go to ADD Aplications and select source as Ubuntu update site.
That's how I did mine. There might be the better way to do this to get the newest version. I am new to Linux too.
