Hello all.To day I bought the new issue of 3d world and somewhere it stated that XL8 has edge extrude and bevel tools. How the f@ck haven't I seen them????
I've done a search on the manuals and the only thing I got about those was that they are feautured on the program!!!!
Well where are they? And are they better then the edge bevel and extrude plugins by arndt?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

these are actually simpler than you may think (or at least i was fooled bacause i was looking for extra tools when there aren't any) it's the standard extrude and bevel, you jsut ahve to be in edge mode :) there are some keyboard modifiers too fro teh extrude one (so that you can control teh angle of the extrusion, though i tend to find it easiest to simply extrude but not any distance, then use the move, scale and rotate tools to get teh edge where i want it to be). i can't remember the exact modifiers, but they're combinations of shift, ctrl, and alt (or apple on a mac). and you can also access them quickly by right clicking when you have yor edges selected in edge mode (select, bevel or extrude form teh context menu).

hope this is what you wanted :)

Hi,
As mdme_sadie said, first press the Use Edge Tool icon above the Use Polygon Tool icon (default icon palette). So you could find edge commands in the context menu. I wonder why the main menu doesn't have them...
These are better than Arndt's plugins in that you can use realtime viewport operations, but Arndt has developed more sophisticated version of edge tools.

Oh thanks to both of your answers.
Well the edge extrude I can't really understand how it works... I think I prefer arndt's tool. But I haven't given it really a chance. Anybody can give a few instruction how cinemas edge extrude works?? Why does it move the first edges deeper on the object and the new ones are moved also on all the directions? I disabled any movemnt and still moves on all directions. I defianetely do something wrong. No doubt about it....
But the edge knife is really really good.Simple and workable.
Thanks again for all your answers.

I had this problem too. Choose your edges and then hold down ALT and left mouse button, move the edge until you are happy with it, let go of ALT but keep the mouse button down, then move the mouse to 'rotate' the new edges about their original position.

It is a bit wierd but you get used to it. I wish it just moved out along the edge like you would expect.

I prefer to set the extrude distance/offset to 0. Then when you click the Apply button you can just move the new edges freely. I wish to hell there was a way to change the defaults to "0" every time Cinema started up.

make a default.c4d file with the setting made.

I think default.c4d should be read as template.c4d and new.c4d. But that's cool.
Or, without pressing the apply button, we could continue the next bevel operation. Also we can reset the bevel operations by pressing other icons like the Move Active Element.

i'd just love to see the option for cinema always saving your tools in the state you left them in upon exit.
