I think what's missing is just more. I like how you have the basketball court materialize. but I think a little more active little techy stuff would be nice. I find the "soccer" lettering just too simple, looks like default writing

i agree totally. i'm just having trouble trying to come up with little techy things. i know what you mean when you say that, but it's difficult to create them.
thanks for the crit

Hi Ryan
I think it's working fine. Less is more.
I wouldn't add anything just for the sake of adding something.
Just my opinion :)
Nice work

Hey Ryan!
Yeah I understand that sometimes doing those techy things can be difficult to come up with. but what I started doing what work on one element, then once I figure out one cool trick, I change it slightly and use a different design element and poof you have a completely different effect based on one you knew before.
Here let me help you with some inspiration.
you can check out the motion graphic section of blur studios:
http://www.blur.com
or what I like to do is check out some really cool flash interface or animation design. one of my favorite sites to use as reference is:
http://www.2advanced.com
They have AWSOME techy stuff!!! Check out their portfolio of previous sites! theres a whole treasure box of amazing ideas there. Also click on the "2advanced studios" logo at the bottom, you should be able to download their reel featuring some ultra cool stuff for motion graphic design.
but yeah browse through, find one motion design concept and think about how you can reproduce it in your own software package you use. but remember, don't rip off other people's design, just adapt it to your sports theme.
Good Luck and best of all enjoy!

I just wanted to reply to Martin's comment. He is right of course in his short statement. Less is for sure more.
However I believe that RyanVII's less wasn't more. although his animation is clean, it just wasn't clean enough. something has to be done. He's on the right track and I highly recomend he keep his simple clean look, but just up the motion graphic technical aspect/ability because after all, he is trying to showcase his abilities. A simple fade in and out is very clean, very effective and works really well for alot of pieces we all see in advertising and whatever media. however there should be some higher degree of showcasing skill if you're trying to impress employers that you can do more complicated and intricate works.
Keep at it RyanVII! you're on the right track and you are doing well, just continue pushing yourself a little more because it is a competitive industry and we are all up against some really talented people.

i appreciate all the advice and crits. i'm reworking the project as we speak. i think i found some little techy stuff and camera movements that add to the piece, but also keep it clean. i think it adds another level of detail that makes it look a little more complex, but ties into the sports theme. i'll post my next rough cut when i'm done. thanks.

here is a revamped version of my demo tape intro. i've added a few motion graphic items to it and re-did some the fonts and camera moves. any and all crits are welcome. does it need more? does it need less? should i slow it down or speed it up? do the fonts work? is the titling too cheesy or not sophisticated enough? how is the style of the piece?
i'm using this as an intro to my videography demo reel. these are highlights i shot for work at nbc lima. that being said, i would love a position doing motion graphics, editing, and special effects for tv or a commercial production company. so if you could give me crits based on work you've seen in those fields i would really appreciate it.
thanks
